With just a few weeks left on the 2021 Thoroughbred horse racing calendar, this Friday night’s Remington Springboard Mile is one of the final stakes events of the year for two-year old Thoroughbreds. Covering one mile in distance on Remington Park’s dirt track, the winner of this race will advance their standing on the 2022 Kentucky Derby Trail.

The total field of nine entries has been set with official post positions and morning line odds to win. This year’s Remington Springboard Mile features a deep field of juveniles with more than a few entries poised to win the featured event on Friday night’s card.
2021 Remington Springboard Mile
When: Friday, December 17th 2021
Where: Remington Park
Digging deep into this field, I have narrowed my choices to three contenders that have the best chance to finish in the money. Here is a brief look at each one.
Win: Classic Moment
Breaking from the favorable No. 5 post, the 4-1 second-favorite on the morning line should live up to those high expectations. Trained by Steve Asmussen, the two-year old Kentucky-bred colt will have Stewart Elliott as his jockey. With a Horse Racing Nation rating of 5.55, he appears to be the class of this field.
Coming off a recent victory at Churchill Downs in a Maiden Special Weight race covering 6 ½ furlongs, the son of Classic Empire showed excellent speed with a winning time of 1:16.68. This was a notable improvement from a third-place finish at Keeneland in a six-furlong MSW event in his racing debut.
Place: Bye Bye Bobby

Trained by Todd Fincher, this Kentucky-bred juvenile has also been opened at 4-1 odds to win on Friday night. Breaking from the No. 3 post, jockey Roimes Chirinos will get the ride. Bye Bye Bobby caught my eye with his recent victory in the ungraded Zia Park Juvenile on Nov. 23 at Zia Park. He covered the six furlongs on dirt in 1:09.30.
The son of Quality Road will be going against a much tougher field this time around but he remains a good bet to take one of the top two spots. There is some concern about his fifth-place finish at Zia Park in his racing debut but this is another juvenile that has gotten better as the year progressed.
Show: Concept
The No. 1 horse in this race has been opened at 5-1 odds as the fourth-favorite in the field. Also trained by Steve Asmussen, he will have Carlos Montalvo as his jockey. Coming from excellent pedigree sired by Gun Runner, Concept demonstrated that talent by winning the ungraded Kip Deville Stakes at Remington Park on Sept. 26. His winning time in this six-furlong sprint on dirt was 1:10.12.
This will be his fifth race of the season as a juvenile and he will be looking for his third finish in the money. Concept slipped to fourth in this year’s ungraded Clever Trevor Stakes at Remington his last time out on Oct. 29. That race covered seven furlongs on the dirt track. Concept will be pressed to take one of the top three spots on Friday night with Make It Big in the field as the 7-2 favorite, but I still like his chances to pay off as my show horse.
