The 2022 NFL season will get underway on Thursday, Sept. 8. Week 1 of the season will continue on Sunday, Sept. 11, and a number of NFL rookies will have the opportunity to make their mark.
There will be several rookies that will become Day 1 starters for their respective teams. When it’s all said and done, one will be named the Offensive Rookie of the Year.
Last year’s winner was Cincinnati WR Ja’Marr Chase. He set Bengals franchise records for receiving yards in a season (1,455) and in a single game (266). Chase caught 81 passes and scored 13 touchdowns.
Prior to Chase, quarterbacks Kyler Murray and Justin Herbert won in 2019 and 2020. In 2017 and 2018, running backs Alvin Kamara and Saquon Barkley won the award.
Who will it be in 2022? Here’s a look at the 2022 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Odds and Picks.
Top Contenders
The leading contenders to win the ROTY award this season are a pair of wide receivers and a quarterback. Kenny Pickett was the first quarterback selected in the draft. He didn’t have to go far as he went from the University of Pittsburgh to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Pickett is given +750 odds to win the award, but he will have to win the starting job at some point this season from either Mitch Trubisky or Mason Rudolph.
On top of the board is WR Chris Olave, now a New Orleans Saint. Olave put up big numbers at Ohio State, but his teammate Garrett Wilson actually went before him to the New York Jets. Olave will likely start right away, but can QB Jameis Winston return from injury to give Olave the stats he’ll need to win this award?
Drake London was the first receiver picked in the draft. In Atlanta, he’ll become a star. He is very similar to Tampa Bay’s Mike Evans – big, fast, and a red-zone target. Evans scored 12 touchdowns as a rookie. If London does that, he could win the ROTY and bettors would love the payout at +750.
Watch Out
Be on the lookout for RB Breece Hall who was also picked by the New York Jets. If Wilson doesn’t put up the numbers, Hall very well could. Hall is given +800 odds and Wilson is listed at +900. The other guy to watch is Treylon Burks who will step in and take over for A.J. Brown who the Tennessee Titans traded to Philadelphia.
Burks (+800) is built similarly. He’s a big 6-3, 225-pound receiver with game-breaking talent. He can play outside, in the slot, and even in the backfield if the Titans want to use him that way.
Sleepers

A pair of receivers could open some eyes. Skyy Moore was selected by Kansas City and he will become the new Tyreek Hill. Moore isn’t as fast as Hill, but he’s close. He can do it all and he will likely see the type of stats worthy of ROTY consideration. Moore is listed at +1400.
The other guy that could make a big name for himself is George Pickens. He missed almost all of last season but played in the national final for Georgia as they beat Alabama. Had he not been hurt, Pickens most likely would have been a Day 1 pick. He will step in and fill the void left by JuJu Smith-Schuster in Pittsburgh. If the Steelers figure out the quarterback situation, Pickens could have the numbers to win.
2022 NFL OROY Prediction
A number of different variables come into play to win ROTY, but it’s typically a quarterback that wins if he has the stats. There is no rookie QB this year that will have the numbers to win ROTY.
The NFL is a passing league though, which means receivers play a huge role on offense. Good rookie receivers typically do have the numbers to win this award. Chase won it last year.
This year, guys like London, Burks, Olave, Wilson, and even FCS product Christian Wilson will all make an impact from Day 1. London is a prototypical big NFL receiver and he’ll do well, but the Falcons will have an offense led by QB Marcus Mariota.
That’s why we’ll give the edge to Burks, who will have veteran Ryan Tannehill throwing to him. Burks will see his fair share of targets too with Brown gone.
