Sporting KC Looks to Test Red-Hot FC Cincinnati on the Road
Sporting Kansas City has found new life under interim head coach Kerry Zavagnin and will try to carry that momentum into a tough road clash against surging FC Cincinnati on Saturday.
Sporting KC (2-6-1, 7 points) enters off its most complete performance of the season, a 5-3 victory at San Jose. Veteran attacker Daniel Salloi led the way with two goals and two assists, helping SKC snap out of its early-season struggles. The club has now won two of three since a coaching change ended Peter Vermes’ long tenure.
“Obviously the attack has been getting better and better these last games,” Salloi said. “That’s key. When you go on the road, you have to (take) the momentum and score at the right time.”
Salloi now has four goals on the season, second only to new addition Dejean Jovelic, who has found the net five times.
The improved offense will be critical against one of the hottest teams in MLS.
FC Cincinnati Riding Momentum at Home
FC Cincinnati (6-2-1, 19 points) is tied atop the Eastern Conference and riding a five-match unbeaten streak. Last weekend, they edged the Chicago Fire 3-2 thanks to a brace from Evander in his return from injury.
“Coming on today, progressing from an injury, helping the team to three points tonight was like, it couldn’t be better now,” Evander said.
Evander now leads Cincinnati with six goals, with Kevin Denkey chipping in four. Together, they’ve accounted for the bulk of Cincinnati’s offense this season.
Cincinnati’s home field advantage at TQL Stadium has been a major factor, and with the Eastern Conference race heating up, they’ll look to stay perfect against an SKC side still figuring out its full identity.

The battle shapes up as a measuring stick game for Cincinnati’s defense, which will need to contain an SKC attack that is playing with more confidence than it has all year.
