Saturday CBB: Best Underdog Picks Against the Spread

The 2020-21 college basketball season is moving along rapidly. We have plenty of evidence of how good teams are in the NCAA at this point in the season.

This proof makes December basketball a great time to start betting on college basketball. There are tons of underdogs who give bettors a great chance to beat the spread on Saturday.

Here are my three favorite dogs to pick against the spread.

Gonzaga Bulldogs vs. Iowa Hawkeyes Predictions

Best Bet: Iowa +3.5

Gonzaga will be on the road for a Saturday afternoon matchup with Iowa that will be played at the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, SD. Iowa has performed well ATS in 2020. In six total games, the team is 5-1.

However, this will be the Hawkeyes’ first time competing as an underdog this season. Gonzaga has only played three games this season. Its tightest contest came on Dec. 2 in an 87-82 victory over No. 11 West Virginia.

The West Virginia game is the last time that Gonzaga stepped foot on a basketball court. Iowa has the advantage in every statistical category.

The Hawkeyes are scoring over 100 points per game, and they’re only giving up 68.5 points per contest. I like Iowa to cover because of their defensive ability.

Nothing will come easy for the Gonzaga offense. Drew Timme leads the team in scoring, but Iowa is a better team on the boards.

Second-chance opportunities have allowed Gonzaga to pull out some big victories this year. Despite this, I believe that Iowa is more physical in the paint.

Louisville Cardinals at Wisconsin Badgers Predictions

Best Bet: Louisville +5.5

Louisville will enter Saturday’s game on the road against Wisconsin as a 5.5-point dog. The Cardinals are 4-0 on the year.

The team is led by senior guard Carlik Jones, who can do it all for the Cardinals. Jones is shooting close to 50% from the field.

He has averaged 17.3 points per game this season. I think he’ll be able to find a way to get to the basket on Saturday.

These two teams are evenly matched in the backcourt. Wisconsin was stunned against Marquette for its only loss of the season on Dec. 4.

Wisconsin hasn’t played a team as good as Louisville yet. If Louisville can find a way to maintain possession of the basketball, I think it will cover with ease.

Louisville will also need to shut down Badgers senior forward Micah Potter. Potter is only averaging 12 points per game, but his hustle style of play can still hurt the Cardinals. Louisville will shut down Potter and cover on the road.

College Basketball Predictions

Purdue Boilermakers vs. Notre Dame Fighting Irish Predictions

Best Bet: Notre Dame +6.5

Notre Dame is off to a rough start this season. The Fighting Irish are 2-3, but they have played well considering the difficulty of their schedule.

Strength of schedule is going to make the ultimate difference in this game. Notre Dame has played Duke, Kentucky, Ohio State, and Michigan State for four of its first five games this year.

Purdue’s toughest game so far was against Ohio State. The Boilermakers were victorious, but they have been an inconsistent 5-2 team.

Notre Dame sizes up to the Boilermakers in nearly every statistical category. When I factor this in with their opponents this season, I believe Notre Dame is a lock to cover +5.5.

Irish guard Prentiss Hubb needs to continue his early success in the scoring department. Hubb is averaging 19.4 points per game.

His shooting percentage is 40.7%, which isn’t the best, but he takes the majority of the shots for the Irish.

This is Notre Dame’s game to win. The Purdue Boilermakers should be concerned because they’re on upset alert this Saturday.

Good luck this weekend on college basketball.
