2022 RBC Canadian Open Odds and Picks

The RBC Canadian Open returns after two years off due to COVID-19. The tournament returns to the St. George’s Golf and Country Club in Toronto, Canada for the first time since 2010. In 2019 the event was won by Rory McIlroy by seven strokes over Shane Lowry and Webb Simpson.

This year McIlroy returns to defend his 2019 title and he’s one of the favorites heading into the opening round. McIlroy comes in at +1000 but Scottie Scheffler is the lone favorite coming in at +850 for Thursday’s opening round. This is the first time that Scheffler has played in the Canadian Open but he enters with four wins already this season.

PGA Betting Sites

With the event being a week before the U.S. Open, the Canadian Open field has turned into a strong one. It’s also having to compete with the new LIV Series and their opening event in London. That’s why you don’t see players such as Dustin Johnson who won the Canadian Open in 2018. Also participating in the LIV event are Lee Westwood, Sergio Garcia, Kevin Na, Talor Gooch, and others.

Regardless of how things turn out with the PGA and the LIV, the Canadian Open is setting up to be a competitive event! Just to show you how deep the top of the projected leaderboard is, here’s a look at the top five favored players to win the 2022 RBC Canadian Open outright.

Scottie Scheffler +850

Justin Thomas +900

Rory McIlroy +1000

Cameron Smith +1200

Sam Burns +1400

St. Georges is not a course for long bombers! This venue, which opened in 1929, was designed by Stanley Thompson. The course punishes bad approach shots with heavily protected greens. And the majority of the greens are raised so being off a few feet could send balls rolling downhill for tough wedge shots.

Fairways are tight and tree-lined with rolling terrain. Water does not come into play much at St. Georges. There are only a few small creeks on the course and there are no large ponds with tricky island greens. This is a shot-makers course, look for players at the top of the leaderboard to be the ones that trim strokes with their short game.

2022 RBC Canadian Open Predictions

Justin Thomas +900

Justin Thomas won the PGA Championship and then hit a brick wall at the Colonial. Now he comes in rested and the emotion of winning a Major is behind him. Thomas won the PGA Championship with a solid approach game that trimmed shots giving him extra putts on the final hole. That’s the same game style that will win the RBC Canadian Open this year.

Shane Lowry +1800

Shane Lowry has a 2nd place finish this season and two T3 runs. He finished the PGA Championship with a 69 in the final round. He’s only missed the cut two times this season. Lowry currently ranks at the top for scrambling and T7 in Par-3 scoring. Two things that will be important this week at St. Georges.

Harold Varner III +3300

Harold Varner III has played some amazing rounds this season only to have one bad round pop up at the worst time. He finished T3 at the Heritage, T4 in New Orleans for the Classic, and a T6 at the PLAYERS Championship. If Varner can avoid forced errors he could be one of the leaders heading into the final round on Sunday. He’s 13th on Tour for Birdie Average.

Others I Like: Rory McIlroy (+1000) is defending his 2019 RBC Canadian Open win but he’s looked inconsistent as of late. Adam Hadwin (+4000) would love to bank a win in his home country. He’s been clicking off top-25 finishes this season and moved to No. 51 on the OWGR.
