The 2024 French Open was won by Carlos Alcaraz, who edged out Alexander Zverev for his third grand slam title. Alcaraz won in five sets and claimed his first Roland Garros championship.

It should shock nobody that Carlos Alcaraz opens as the favorite to win the French Open this year. The 22-year old is the reigning champion and is quickly becoming one of the top tennis stars in the world.

Alcaraz is a serious threat to repeat, and last year’s win wasn’t a fluke. He’s claimed three grand slam titles already, and he’s even coming in hot after winning the Italy Open recently.

This is a top-heavy field, too. Rafael Nadal largely dominated this event for years, with a light sprinkling of challengers that found a way to snag wins along the way. For the most part, though, this is not a grand slam with a lot of surprises, nor was it one where betting on longshots paid off.

Perhaps that changes this year, but the smart money is on Alcaraz or one of the other top betting favorites. If you’re not backing Alcaraz to defend his title, Jannik Sinner is probably going to be your next best bet. Not too far behind him is Lorenzo Mussetti, and of course the iconic and ageless Novak Djokovic, who has two wins here since 2021.

I’ll go over the chances of the top contenders and my favorite values. If you’re ready to bet now, just make sure you’re tapping into the best handicappers money can buy.

Men’s French Open Favorites

The following ATP players are considered the odds-on favorites to win the 2025 Men’s Australian Open:

Carlos Alcaraz (-105)

First up is Carlos Alcaraz, who needs no introduction. The 22-year old has taken the tennis world by storm, winning three grand slams to this point and of course claiming the French Open title just last year.

Has he already reached “grand slam repeat mode”? Only time will tell, but Alcaraz isn’t coming into this tourney in poor form. He will come in hot, as he just got past some stiff competition – namely Jannik Sinner – by winning the 20245 Italian Open.

It’s always possible he could come down from that high, but Alcaraz made a solid run at the Australian Open before bowing out to Novak Djokivic, and later proceeded to claim three ATP titles.

Clearly in elite form and ready to take on the best of the best, it’s arguable nothing will stop Alcaraz in his plight to defend his first French Open championship. Given the fact that this event has been dominated by just a few big names throughout its recent history, it’s a wonder why Alcaraz’s French Open betting odds are so palatable.

Jannik Sinner (N/A)

The last I saw, Jannik Sinner’s price was locked at most online tennis betting websites. That could change in due time, but the overall message is that he is viewed as the most realistic threat to upset Carlos Alcaraz.

A few things beyond just his likely pricing align with that narrative. First, Sinner finally made his return from a three-month layoff, making it all the way to the 2025 Italian Open finale before losing to – you guessed it – Alcaraz.

The good news? The first set was a battle where Sinner kept it tight (7-6). He got roasted in the second set to lose the final match, but to make it that far after being out of the game for so long – and to give the #2 ranked player in the world a run for his money early – has to be seen as a bit of a win.

Sinner returning to elite form after some time away shouldn’t shock anyone. He’s arguably the best male tennis player in the world at this point, and back-to-back Australian Open crowns are evidence of that. In fact, Sinner has now racked up titles at two of the four grand slams, also notching a championship at the US Open.

The 23-year old will undeniably have his sights on heating back up, while a French Open title has so far eluded him. He did have his best run last year, of course, when he reached the semifinals. You can’t actively bet on him as I write this, but Sinner by default feels like the top threat to Alcaraz and is in a very real way the best value on the board.

Lorenzo Musetti (N/A)

You won’t be finding any odds for Lorenzo Musetti to win the 2025 French Open right now, either. My guess is the pricing will show up as we inch closer to the tourney, but even without a clear cut price, we know for a fact he is among the top French Open contenders.

Much like Sinner, Musetti is fresh off a loss to Carlos Alcaraz, as he made it to the semifinals of the 2025 Italian Open. He lost 6-3 in the first set before giving Alcaraz all he could handle (7-6) en route to being handed his exit.

Musetti has worked his way into the ATP top-10 thanks to stellar play at the Davis Cup the past two years, a bronze medal win at the Paris Games, and a SF run at Wimbledon. With more solid play in 2025, Musetti is looking like a solid riser in men’s tennis, and is without a doubt one of the best stars coming out of Italy.

That guarantees nothing, but he is surging at just the right time. It’s also worth noting that he has twice made runs all the way to the fourth round in this event, so his spike in form over the past six months could possibly be just what the doctor ordered.

Novak Djokovic (+400)

One tennis player I like more than Musetti has to be the iconic Novak Djokovic. He is obviously no spring chicken at age 37, but he’s proven in recent tournaments he still has what it takes to hang with the young guns in men’s tennis.

More specifically, Djokovic ousted Carlos Alcaraz for gold at the 2024 Paris Games, which tells us he could definitely get past him if they meet up in this grand slam. Djokivic hasn’t claimed a grand slam title since 2023, but he did reach the semifinals at the 2025 Australian Open.

It hasn’t been all good lately, of course, as Novak lost in the first round of the ATP 500 Tournament – his first such early exit since 2016. Add in a second round loss at the Indian Wells Open, and it’s fair to wonder if he has enough momentum to propel him to a big upset.

History suggests it may not matter. This is a tourney Novak has won three times before, with his most recent championship coming just two years ago in 2023. He’s also enjoyed some big wins over the French Open favorite, suggesting a face-off could easily go his way.

Dominating on the clay courts isn’t for everyone, but Novak knows how to make it happen in this setting like few do. I still don’t love his recent form, the age factor, or the competition he’ll be running into – but he’s a compelling value bet at +400 and remains a viable threat to win it all in 2025.

Best Men’s French Open Betting Value

The best 2025 men’s French Open value bet is undeniably Casper Ruud. He’s not quite at the contender level when looking at his odds (+1000), but he’s absolutely capable of winning this thing.

Ruud has yet to actually finish first in the French Open tourney, but he came remarkably close recently as the runner-up in both 2022 and 2023. He didn’t put up much of a fight in losses to Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic (he didn’t win a single set), but his showdown with Novak in 2023 at least made the veteran work for it.

We did not see Ruud get back to the French Open final last year, as he entered as the 7-seed, but bowed out in the semifinals against Alexander Zverev. That is not a loss to be ashamed of, but it was in less than ideal fashion, as he lost three sets in a row after going up 1-0 with a 6-2 win in the first set.

The 26-year old Ruud has yet to claim a grand slam in his career, but he’s made progress. He also reached the final at the 2022 US Open, and in 2024 he advanced to the second round at Wimbledon for the third year in a row.

I would not say Ruud is a great bet to win the French Open, but he’s proven he can navigate this tourney and excel on clay. Getting to the finale won’t be easy, but since he’s done it before, you could absolutely buy into him at his +1000 price tag and hope he finally finishes the job.

Top Men’s French Open Longshot

I can do you one better than Ruud. While he’s a solid value pick, I think tripling our return with someone like Daniil Medvedev sounds much more inviting.

Much like Ruud, Medvedev is obviously not an amazing bet to actually deliver on this wager, but we know for a fact he has the talent and experience to potentially serve up a shocking upset.

Medevev did a solid job here last year, as he took care of business through the first three rounds as the 5-seed. He ran into a bit of a wall in the fourth round, however, eventually losing to Alex de Minaur Roman, despite taking a 1-0 set lead early on.

The 29-year old Medvedev could easily see the writing on the wall at this point; he’s been a rock solid addition to the tennis circuit, but time is no longer on his side when it comes to leaving a lasting mark.

Medvedev does have 20 individual tennis titles under his belt, though, and he is not allergic to success in grand slam tournaments. Don’t forget about his 2022 US Open title, nor the fact that he has three times finished runner-up at the Australian Open.

Of course, the French Open has admittedly been Medvedev’s least successful grand slam. The furthest he’s ever gotten here is the QF (2021), and it’s very possible that’s about as good as it gets. That said, he’s an excellent tennis player that has the talent to make a run, and he’s still in his physical prime.

I wouldn’t toss a lot of money at Medvedev, but at his +3300 price tag he’s worth a look for sure.

Men’s French Open Final

We don’t yet know the official seeding for the 2025 French Open tournament, but once the draw is settled we will update this section to give an accurate prediction.

For now, I would imagine we get some big names on opposite ends of the tournament. I do expect Carlos Alcaraz to make it back to at least the final to defend his title, and it would be sheer theatrics if he faced off with Novak Djokivic for all the marbles.

Novak has admittedly held the upper hand between the two to this point, leading the individual series with a 5-3 record. Alcaraz has been in far better form so far in 2025, however, and the fact that he’s bested his older rival three times is reason to believe he could do so here.

Men’s French Open Predictions

Without pricing, I do think Jannik Sinner will shape up to be a really solid value bet. I also don’t mind Novak Djokovic at his +400 odds. Both of these guys are supremely talented, experienced, know how to win these types of tournaments, and have had some success against Alcaraz.

That said, Alcaraz is an amazing value right now. He is close to being a plus money bet, so you will get back whatever you risk. He’s also got the upper hand against Sinner, he won at this event last year, and he’s had enough success against Novak to think he could get the job done if they clash again.

On top of that, the 22-year old is in fantastic form. The mark of a truly elite tennis player is to successfully defend tourney titles and dominate events. The greats do it all the time and after seeing Alcaraz defend his championship at Wimbledon last year, I fully believe he’s capable of doing it at the 2025 French Open as well.

Bet: Carlos Alcaraz (-105)
