Brewers Hope First Late-Inning Rally Kickstarts Hot Streak
The Milwaukee Brewers will look to turn a much-needed momentum shift into a winning streak when they return home to face the Boston Red Sox on Monday afternoon. The opener of their three-game set comes on the heels of Milwaukee’s first late-inning comeback victory of the season.
The Brewers rallied for three runs in the eighth inning on Sunday to edge the Pirates 6-5 and snap a frustrating 0-23 skid when trailing after seven innings.
“You hit balls hard, you’re out… But you’ve just got to keep moving forward.”
— Brice Turang, Brewers Infielder
Turang’s go-ahead double came at a critical time, as the Brewers avoided a series loss in Pittsburgh and head into the week with renewed energy.

Patrick Takes the Mound for Milwaukee
Rookie Chad Patrick (2-4, 3.23 ERA) gets the start for Milwaukee. He’s coming off a no-decision against Baltimore in which he allowed just one run over 4 2/3 innings. Patrick dazzled in April with a 1.82 ERA but has seen that rise to 3.95 in May.
The right-hander will face a Boston team that just split a four-game home series with Baltimore, dropping the final two games including Sunday’s 5-1 loss. Turang, once hitting above .300 this month, has seen his average fall to .269 despite continuing to make strong contact.
Red Sox Lean on Crochet, Mayer Debuts
Boston counters with ace lefty Garrett Crochet (4-3, 1.98 ERA), who has been a model of consistency this season. He’s allowed more than two earned runs just once in 11 starts and boasts a 1.85 ERA across four outings in May.
“We’re here for the long run, and we need that guy to make his starts.”
— Alex Cora, Red Sox Manager
The Red Sox also debuted top prospect Marcelo Mayer over the weekend. After going hitless in his debut, Mayer responded with a two-hit performance and a double in Sunday’s loss. Boston will be looking to him for a spark, especially with Alex Bregman now sidelined due to a quad strain.
Crochet faced the Brewers once last season, allowing one run over six innings in a no-decision.
