Orioles Find Positives Heading Into Series With Cardinals
After a rocky few weeks, the Baltimore Orioles are finally gaining traction. Returning home after back-to-back wins for the first time since early May, they’ll look to continue their momentum on Monday as they open a three-game series against the St. Louis Cardinals.
“The last two games were right where we should be. It’s something to build off of.”
— Dean Kremer, Orioles Pitcher
Sunday’s 5-1 win over the Red Sox not only gave Baltimore a series split but also injected renewed optimism into the clubhouse. Former Cardinal Dylan Carlson hit his first home run as an Oriole and expressed joy in helping deliver a win against his old team.
“The hard work starting to roll, starting to pay off. It makes the game that much more fun.”
— Dylan Carlson, Orioles Outfielder

Injury Concerns Loom for Orioles
Despite the win, Baltimore received a scare when catcher Adley Rutschman exited after taking a foul tip off the mask. His status for Monday’s game is uncertain and will depend on further evaluation at home. Rookie Maverick Handley filled in and may be called upon again if Rutschman is unavailable.
The Orioles, still dealing with weather-related disruptions to their rotation in Boston, had not named a starter as of Sunday evening. They did activate utility man Cooper Hummel before the series finale.
Cardinals Riding a Surge
St. Louis edged Arizona 4-3 on Sunday to notch their third straight win and their seventh in the past 10 games. Outfielder Jordan Walker is beginning to find his rhythm, collecting consecutive two-hit games over the weekend.
“That is what gives us hope that this is headed in the right direction.”
— Oliver Marmol, Cardinals Manager
Veteran first baseman Willson Contreras missed his second straight game with back discomfort but is considered day-to-day. Right-hander Erick Fedde (3-3, 3.77 ERA) will take the mound in the opener. He’s been sharp in May, going 2-0 in four starts, and has historically dominated the Orioles — with a 2-0 record and a minuscule 0.38 ERA across 23 2/3 innings.
This marks the beginning of a six-game road trip and a nine-game stretch for St. Louis against American League opponents. They swept Baltimore in a three-game set last May and will look to start another streak Monday.
