Aces on Mound as Rangers Clash with Blue Jays
The Texas Rangers are hoping to build off a dramatic comeback as they return home to host the Toronto Blue Jays in a Memorial Day afternoon showdown. Monday’s game opens a three-game set in Arlington and features a marquee pitching matchup between Kevin Gausman and Jacob deGrom.
Texas snapped a six-game losing streak with a ninth-inning rally in Sunday’s 5-4 win over the White Sox, giving them a small wave of momentum as they begin a six-game homestand.

Gausman Looks to Stay Locked In
Kevin Gausman (4-4, 4.03 ERA) gets the nod for the Blue Jays after throwing seven shutout innings in a 14-0 rout of San Diego on Wednesday. He allowed just three hits, struck out nine, and didn’t walk a batter.
“Hopefully, this is something he can build on. That would be a big stabilizing force for us.”
— John Schneider, Blue Jays Manager
Gausman has been up-and-down this season but carries strong career numbers against Texas. In 13 appearances (12 starts), he’s 7-3 with a 3.42 ERA and 75 strikeouts across 76 1/3 innings.
Toronto, however, is coming off a brutal three-game sweep at the hands of the Tampa Bay Rays in which they managed just two runs total. They were shut out 13-0 on Sunday and have dropped three of their last four series.
deGrom Anchors Texas’ Rotation
Jacob deGrom (4-1, 2.33 ERA) continues to shine in his comeback season. In his last start, the right-hander allowed just two runs on three hits over seven innings against the Yankees, but took a no-decision in a 4-3 loss.
“It’s exciting to see one of the best pitchers ever back in the game.”
— Bruce Bochy, Rangers Manager
The two-time Cy Young Award winner is in rhythm, having won four straight decisions prior to that no-decision. Monday will be just his second career start against Toronto; in his first (with the Mets in 2020), he earned the win while striking out nine and giving up one run in six innings.
Texas looks to continue its climb back toward .500 and knows that riding the wave of deGrom’s dominance could be a key to doing so.
