2022 World Wide Technology Championship Odds and Picks

Time to head South of the border for the World Wide Technology Championship at Mayakoba – formerly known as the Mayakoba Golf Classic. The event started in 2007 as an alternative tournament on the schedule but now is a stand-alone tournament with FedEx points and an invitation to Masters.

That’s made for stronger fields that now include players such as Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland. Both players come in as some of the favorites this week for good reason. Hovland has won this tournament for the last two years and is looking for a three-peat. Scheffler has just moved to the No. 2 spot in the world rankings after a long ride at the top. That may be the slight edge that oddsmakers see Scheffler as having over Hovland.

Scottie Scheffler +900

Viktor Hovland +1000

Tony Finau +1400

Collin Morikawa +1600

This is an opportunity for some of the bigger names on the Tour to pick up some points and a win. This is a tournament where a player from well below the typical leaders can jump up and grab a win.

El Camaleon Golf Club is may be short, by PGA Tour standards, but it can play like a long European-style venue due to ocean wind. If winds become an issue you can expect players with a touch for long irons to try and go as low as possible off the tee. Most players will look to shave strokes off some of the shorter par-5 and par-4 holes in a tournament that’s known for sometimes being drama-packed on Sunday.

2022 World Wide Technology Championship Predictions

Viktor Hovland +1000

Viktor Hovland has won this tournament for the last two years and he seems to have taken a liking to this course. Last year he finished four strokes ahead of Carlos Ortiz and pulled out some clutch swings the year before to avoid a playoff while winning by a stroke over Aaron Wise. Hovland should be around on Sunday to seek his third straight Mayakoba win.

Tom Hoge +2500

Tom Hoge has gone 4 for 4 this season by not heading home after Friday. And he’s finished T13 or better in all four events he’s played. He’s also moved to the 6th spot on the PGA TOUR in GIR since last season. Hoge finished T3 here two years ago and he’s coming off a 3 rd place finish at the Shriners and a T13 at the CJ Cup.

Seamus Power +4000

Seamus Power looked amazing last week at the Bermuda Championship. And, in some ways, this course will play similarly. The ETSU alum from Ireland has one missed weekend out of four tournaments played so far this season. Last week in Bermuda he carded three opening rounds of 65 each with a 70 on Sunday.

Others: Scottie Scheffler (+900) is working with a new putter and seems to be having a few issues with the club. Form or mental? Who knows – but if he gets the putter figured out he’s back on tops. Aaron Wise (+1800) has come close to winning this event and he has the irons and putter to give it a run again this year.
