Union Faces Charlotte FC, Aim to Extend Unbeaten Streak

Philadelphia Union will look to keep their hot streak alive when they welcome Charlotte FC to Subaru Park on Saturday night. Riding an 11-match unbeaten run across all competitions, the Union sit atop the Eastern Conference and remain alive in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

“The guys have been incredible the last month,” Philadelphia head coach Bradley Carnell said. “We’ve been challenged. We’ve been up, we’ve been down, and we’ve found a way to manage all these things and bounce back every two, three days.”

Philadelphia Thriving With Depth and Consistency

Carnell, who took the reins in January, has emphasized rotation and squad depth to great effect. In May, 11 different players found the back of the net for Philadelphia, complementing Golden Boot leader Tai Baribo’s 13-goal campaign.

Philadelphia (10-3-4, 34 points) has already surpassed their 2024 win total of nine, and while confidence is high, the club remains grounded.

“You can be really happy, but it’s matchday 17, not 34,” Carnell said during the break.

Charlotte Regrouping Mid-Road Trip

Charlotte FC (8-8-1, 25 points) snapped out of a 1-6 skid just before the international break with a 2-0 road win over Toronto on May 31. The win was just their second away from home this season as they continue a five-match road trip that spans over a month.

“Really good planning, isn’t it?” Charlotte coach Dean Smith said with a touch of sarcasm. “That we can play nine games in one month and then three in the next. It’s a welcome break for us, but the scheduling has got to be a little bit better for me and more spread out.”

Charlotte will be without top scorer Patrick Agyemang (six goals) and center back Tim Ream, both called up for the U.S. Gold Cup squad.

Key Absences on Both Sides

Philadelphia will also be missing several regulars due to international duty, including defender Nathan Harriel (USA), goalkeeper Andre Blake (Jamaica), and midfielder Danley Jean Jacques (Haiti).
