Gerrit Cole has a commanding lead in the strikeouts category this season. He’s followed by Milwaukee’s Corbin Burnes, who will be in action today against St. Louis. He is the only one of MLB’s top-5 strikeout leaders that will pitch today.
A number of MLB teams have been struggling at the plate lately. The Pittsburgh Pirates and Detroit Tigers have been struggling all season. Both teams will be in action tonight and offer some value for their opponent’s starting pitchers.
Here are the best MLB strikeouts props picks for Saturday, August 13th 2022.
Logan Webb – OVER 4.5 Ks (-160)
Webb is 10-5 this season with a 3.17 ERA. He is the Giants top pitcher in 2022 and tonight he will go up against one of the poorer lineups in all of baseball – Pittsburgh.
The Pirates rank 28th in runs per game scoring 3.61. They rank at or near the bottom in most offensive statistical categories. One of those categories is strikeouts per game.
Pittsburgh strikes out the third-most times per game this season. Pirates’ hitters whiff an average of 9.27 times per game. Only the Angels and Braves strike out more often. In last night’s 5-3 loss to the Giants, Pirates batters struck out 10 times.
Webb has gone Over this prop in three of his last five starts. He’ll hit it again tonight.
Dylan Bundy – OVER 4.5 Ks (+105)
Bundy is coming off a solid performance against Toronto, but he only pitched four innings. He allowed two earned runs and struck out six as the Twins won 7-3. The six strikeouts put Bundy Over this prop in two of his last three starts.
Tonight, Bundy goes up against the Los Angeles Angels. The Angels have essentially tanked this season. They are 23.5 games out of first place in the AL West and they lost to the Twins last night 4-0.
The Angels also lead the majors in strikeouts per game. Their hitters whiff an average of 9.60 times per game. In last night’s loss, the Angels struck out 10 times. Bundy can pick up five Ks tonight.
Marco Gonzalez – OVER 4.5 Ks (+130)
Gonzalez has gone Over this prop in each of his last three starts. One of those starts was against the team he will face today – Texas.
On July 27, Gonzalez pitched seven innings, allowed four hits, and two earned runs in a 4-2 win over the Rangers. He struck out five. Gonzalez followed up that start with five more Ks against the Yankees and then he struck out seven in his last start against the Angels.
The Rangers are a hit or miss type ball club. They were ranked in the top-10 in scoring at various points this season, but they rank 26th in strikeouts per game. Texas hitters whiff an average of 8.90 times per game. Over their last three games, the Rangers have averaged 13 Ks per game.
Lucas Giolito – OVER 6.5 Ks (+100)
Giolito goes up against the Detroit Tigers and that’s why he’ll go Over this prop. He typically doesn’t hit this big of a number, but the Tigers offer Giolito a unique opportunity.
Giolito hit this prop on July 8 in a start against Detroit. He pitched 6.2 innings and fanned eight Tigers batters.
The Tigers strike out an average of 8.71 times per game. Recently, they have been whiffing at a high rate. Over their last three games, Tigers hitters are averaging 14 Ks per game.
