Nashville Riding High, But History Favors Miami
Nashville (12-4-5, 41 points) comes into the match flying high after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Philadelphia, which pushed them to second place in the Eastern Conference. The unbeaten run includes five straight victories and a trip to the U.S. Open Cup semifinals — a first in club history.
Yet, despite the momentum, Nashville hasn’t beaten Miami since May 2023, and their last win at Chase Stadium came nearly three years ago in September 2021. In their last six meetings, Miami holds a 4-0-2 edge, including a dramatic 10-9 penalty shootout win in the 2023 Leagues Cup final.
“It’s definitely a bigger game,” said Nashville’s Sam Surridge. “Philly on Saturday was a massive game… and I think we can definitely now take that into Miami.”
Surridge leads all MLS scorers with 16 goals entering the weekend and will go head-to-head with Messi for the league’s scoring crown.

Messi Shines, Miami Climbs the Table
Miami (10-3-5, 35 points) has won two straight and is climbing back into contention after a solid run post-Club World Cup. On Wednesday, Messi etched his name further into MLS history, becoming the first player to score multiple goals in four consecutive regular-season matches with a brace against New England.
“Obviously Leo is a special player. For me, he is the best player that has played this sport in history,” said Miami head coach Javier Mascherano. “It’s unbelievable because how he continues doing things… we thought we wouldn’t see at this stage, no?”
Miami may have to make a switch in goal after Oscar Ustari experienced shoulder discomfort midweek. If unavailable, veteran William Yarbrough could step in for his first start of the season.
