The Orlando Magic continue their early-season road trip Thursday night when they visit the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center. Tipoff is set for 7:00 PM ET on October 30, 2025.

Orlando Magic Outlook
Orlando’s defense has completely unraveled on its current road swing, surrendering 136 points to Philadelphia and 135 to Detroit in back-to-back games. Head coach Jamahl Mosley emphasized the need for discipline and better communication, especially after the Magic allowed 64 free-throw attempts combined over those two losses.
Still, the Magic are showing progress offensively. Paolo Banchero continues to lead the charge, averaging 25.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. He was dominant again against Detroit with 24 points, 11 boards, and seven assists — his best all-around performance of the season. Franz Wagner remains a key secondary option, averaging 19.8 points.
The issue remains defensive consistency. Orlando ranks near the bottom of the league in opponent points per game (130.0) but leads the NBA in free throw attempts (35.8 per game), showing they can generate scoring through contact. Charlotte Hornets Outlook
Charlotte’s 144-117 loss to Miami exposed major defensive flaws. The Hornets allowed the Heat to shoot 56% from the field and hit 19 threes, continuing a trend of poor rotations and late closeouts.
However, there’s optimism surrounding rookie guard Kon Knueppel, who made NBA history as the first player to hit five or more threes in two of his first four career games. Knueppel has connected on 16 total threes — the most ever to start a career — and leads all rookies in perimeter scoring efficiency.
Sion James has also been a pleasant surprise, contributing steady defense and energy off the bench while leading the league in three-point percentage (77.8%). LaMelo Ball remains the offensive engine, averaging 22.5 points and 8.3 assists per game, but the Hornets’ defense (allowing 125.4 points per game) must improve if they want to compete.
Charlotte will again be without forward Brandon Miller, sidelined with a shoulder injury, limiting their size on the wing.
