None of the top 5 MLB pitchers in terms of strikeouts will pitch today, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t any value in today’s strikeout props.
NL Cy Young candidate Sandy Alcantara will battle Charlie Morton in what could become an epic pitcher’s duel. Alcantara is 12-6 on the season with a 2.13 ERA and a 0.98 WHIP. Morton hasn’t had his best season, but he is 6-5 and has 168 strikeouts in 140.1 innings.
Which pitchers offer the best value today? Here are the best MLB strikeouts props picks for Friday, September 2nd 2022.
Sandy Alcantara – OVER 5.5 Ks (-160)
Alcantara is one of the best pitchers in baseball. He is coming off a gem of a start. He beat the Dodgers tossing a complete game and allowing just one earned run. Alcantara struck out 10.
He has pitched twice against Atlanta this season. In 17 innings (one complete game), Alcantara has allowed one earned run to the Braves. He won both starts and, more importantly, struck out 21 batters. Atlanta ranks 29th in strikeouts per game. The Braves whiff an average of 9.27 times per game. Only the Los Angeles Angels (9.65) are worse.
Josiah Gray – OVER 4.5 Ks (-130)
Gray throws gas, but he rarely gets much run support which is evident in his 7-8 record. What Gray does is strikeout hitters. He has 140 strikeouts over 123.1 innings. His very first start of the season was against the Mets.
Gray only lasted four innings in that start, but he did strike out five which puts him over this prop. Over his last ten starts, Gray is averaging over 6.0 strikeouts per game.

Jeffrey Springs – OVER 4.5 Ks (-175)
Springs has had a solid season since entering the Rays rotation. He is 6-4 with a 2.76 ERA and has 110 strikeouts over 101 innings.
He will face a Yankees team that he just beat on August 16. Springs threw five innings and allowed a single earned run while striking out just four.
In his last two starts, he pitched a little deeper in each game and struck out seven against the Angels and eight against the Red Sox. Springs had one other start against the Yankees back in May. He struck out six in that game. New York continues to slump winning just once in its last five games.
Sonny Gray – OVER 4.5 Ks (+105)
Twins vs. White Sox Prediction
Gray is 7-4 this season with a very respectable 3.04 ERA. He’s been pitching very well as of late. Over his last three starts – two wins – Gray has given up just three earned runs in 17 innings. He has also struck out 20.
He has one previous start against the White Sox. It didn’t go well. Gray was chased after 3.2 innings and six earned runs. He only struck out three.
With the way he has been pitching lately, Gray can hit this prop. Chicago strikes out an average of 7.73 times per game.
