The New York Liberty visit the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday, June 23, at Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas, with tipoff set for 10:00 p.m. ET. This is one of the best matchups on the WNBA card and a preview of the Commissioner’s Cup Championship next week. New York enters at 11-6 and 5-2 on the road, while Las Vegas comes in at 12-4 and 4-2 at home.
The Liberty are in a strange spot. They won eight straight, then dropped back-to-back games to Washington and Los Angeles, including a 98-97 loss to the Sparks after blowing a 17-point lead. That is not ideal timing before facing A’ja Wilson and an Aces team that has won two straight since getting hammered by Dallas.
Las Vegas is favored by a short number, with the total sitting in the mid-to-high 170s. That feels fair. The Aces have the better current form and the best player on the floor, but New York has the depth, shooting and frontcourt size to make this a real test. It is a side I like, but not one I want to bet lazily.

New York’s form is not as clean as it looked a week ago. Breanna Stewart remains the safest offensive piece, and Jonquel Jones gives New York a rebounding and post edge against plenty of teams. The question is Sabrina Ionescu. She is back from her back issue, but she has not looked fully comfortable yet, and New York needs more than just ball movement from her in this matchup. The New York Liberty stats and results still support a high-end team profile, but the market is right to be cautious after two straight losses.
Availability is a real part of the handicap. Ionescu’s rhythm is still worth monitoring, and Betnijah Laney-Hamilton’s knee management has affected New York’s wing rotation. If Laney-Hamilton is limited again, New York loses some defensive bite against Jackie Young and Chelsea Gray. Bettors should monitor the New York Liberty injury report before tipoff because this number is short enough that one rotation change matters.
Las Vegas Aces Betting Form
Las Vegas has responded well since the 96-66 loss at Dallas. The Aces beat Phoenix by 10, then handled Golden State 92-73, which was a much better defensive performance. That matters. Las Vegas can score with anyone when Wilson gets early paint touches, but its cover chances improve a lot when the defense is active enough to create misses and let the guards run.
Wilson is the matchup center, obviously. She is averaging 25.7 points and 9.1 rebounds, and she changes the whole shape of the game because New York has to decide how much help to send. Chelsea Gray’s playmaking has also been excellent, and Las Vegas is averaging 23.3 assists per game, which speaks to how well the offense moves when it is not stuck in isolation. This starts with Wilson against New York’s frontcourt. Stewart and Jones give the Liberty real size and defensive intelligence, so this is not a matchup where Wilson can just bully every possession. Still, Las Vegas can use Wilson in actions that force New York to rotate, and that is where Gray, Young and the weak-side shooters become dangerous.
New York’s best path is three-point spacing and second-chance control. The Liberty can put multiple shooters around Stewart and Jones, and if Ionescu starts hitting pull-up threes again, Las Vegas has to defend a much wider floor. The Liberty also need to keep the rebounding battle close because the Aces are too good to give extra possessions at home.
Pace is another swing factor. Las Vegas would probably welcome a more open game because Wilson is so dangerous before the defense gets fully set. New York may want a slightly more controlled tempo, especially with Ionescu still working back into rhythm. If the Liberty can force this into half-court execution, their frontcourt passing and spacing give them a better shot to win outright.

I lean Las Vegas on the spread. The line is short, the Aces are at home, and Wilson gives them the most reliable offensive advantage in the game. New York can absolutely win this if Stewart controls the matchup and Ionescu looks more like herself, but based on current form, I trust the Aces a little more.
The Liberty’s back-to-back losses bother me, not because they suddenly look bad, but because both games showed late-game slippage. Washington beat them in Brooklyn, then Los Angeles stole one after New York had a big lead. Against Las Vegas, those lapses usually get punished. Wilson is too consistent, and Gray is too good at finding the right matchup late.
The total is tricky. Both teams can score into the 90s, and the offensive talent points toward the Over. Still, I lean Under 176.5 because this feels like a game where New York tries to slow the pace and make Las Vegas execute against size. The Aces can still win in the high 80s without the game turning into a full track meet.
Projected score: Las Vegas Aces 88, New York Liberty 84. The Liberty should push this into the fourth quarter, but Las Vegas’ current form, home court and Wilson’s interior edge give the Aces the better betting path.
