The Diamondbacks got the response they needed Tuesday. Bratt is the wild card. He is a left-hander making his first major league start, so there is no established MLB form to price. That can work in Arizona’s favor the first time through the order, especially against hitters who have not seen him. It also creates real risk if the command is not there early.
The Diamondbacks’ injuries still matter. Carlos Santana, Max Kepler, James McCann, Corbin Burnes, A.J. Puk, Ryne Nelson, Justin Martinez, Jordan Lawlar, and several other arms are out. That puts more stress on a bullpen that had to work through a shaky ninth Tuesday. If Bratt gives Arizona only four innings, the late-game math gets uncomfortable.

Arizona’s lineup can hit doubles in bunches if he falls behind and lets the middle of the order sit fastball.
St. Louis has the healthier roster and the better home setup. Ramón Urías and Ryan Fernandez are out, while Winn is day-to-day with a thumb issue, but the Cardinals are not dealing with the same long injury list as Arizona. That gives them more lineup and bullpen flexibility in a game where heat could shorten both starters.

The starting pitching matchup is difficult to price. Bratt has debut upside because the Cardinals have no MLB book on him, but debut starts also bring command, workload, and nerves into the handicap. The lineup edge leans Cardinals. Arizona has star-level pieces in Carroll and Marte, plus enough supporting contact to score, but St. Louis has been the more reliable offense over the full season. The Cardinals also have a better on-base base, and that matters against a rookie pitcher trying to navigate a hot-weather road start.
The bullpen edge also leans St. Louis. Arizona’s relief group is missing multiple high-leverage arms, and Tuesday’s ninth inning was not clean. The Cardinals’ bullpen has had its own stress, but the home side has the better chance to match up late if this is tied after five or six innings.

The Diamondbacks are live because Liberatore is not a safe favorite pitcher. If Arizona gets early traffic and forces St. Louis into the bullpen by the fifth, the road side can absolutely win another close game. Carroll, Marte, Gurriel, and Arenado give the Diamondbacks enough quality to punish mistakes.
The total at 9.0 leans Over, but it is not my favorite wager. Heat, Liberatore’s ERA, Bratt’s debut uncertainty, and both bullpens create scoring paths. The hesitation is that Busch Stadium can still hold the ball when the wind is calm, and 9.0 leaves less value than 8.5 would. My projection lands around Cardinals 5, Diamondbacks 4.
