Our number and the price are 1.6 points apart. No bet.
The Edmonton Oilers are -198 against the Vancouver Canucks at +164 at DraftKings. With the margin removed, that is a 63.7% chance for the Oilers. Our number is 62.1%. The gap is 1.6 points, and a side is a bet only when the gap is 5 or more.
How the number is built
One clause: our home win chance is the average of the home team’s 2025-26 home win rate and the visitor’s 2025-26 road loss rate, where a win in overtime or a shootout counts as a win.
The Canucks went 9-27-5 at home last season, meaning 9 wins, 27 regulation losses and 5 losses after regulation. That is a 22.0% home win rate over 41 games. The Oilers went 19-16-6 on the road and lost 22 of 41, a 53.7% road loss rate. The average of 22.0 and 53.7 is 37.9 for the Canucks, which leaves 62.1 for the Oilers.
The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so that they add to more than 100%. Removed from -198 and +164, it leaves the Oilers at 63.7% and the Canucks at 36.3%.
It is a new season. Rosters change over a summer, and nothing on this page measures what changed. The only evidence in hand is last season: 41 home games for the Canucks and 41 road games for the Oilers. The two teams also meet at Edmonton on 29 September, and that game is not in these figures.
The Canucks at home, the Oilers on the road
The Canucks at home scored 2.46 goals a game and allowed 3.90. The Oilers on the road scored 3.39 and allowed 3.15.
Those two halves pull in opposite directions. The Canucks won 9 of 41 at home. The Oilers lost more road games than they won, 22 of 41, and six of those losses came after regulation. Averaged, the two land 1.6 points from the price.
The Oilers finished 41-30-11 with 93 points and outscored opponents by 0.16 goals a game. They lost their playoff series 4-2 to the Anaheim Ducks. The Canucks finished 25-49-8 with 58 points, outscored by 1.22 a game, and did not reach the playoffs.
The Oilers won three of the four meetings in 2025-26: 3-1 at home on 12 October, 6-0 at Vancouver on 18 January and 6-1 at home on 17 April. The Canucks won 4-3 in overtime at home on 27 October. Four games are a small sample, and the method does not use them.
Pick: no bet
No bet on the moneyline. The gap is 1.6 points against a 5-point threshold.
The Oilers opened at -198 and the Canucks at +164, and neither had moved when read on 24 September 2026 at 04:32 UTC, DraftKings via ESPN.
What changes it
A longer price on either side. The Canucks become a bet at +204 or longer, whatever the Oilers are priced at. The Oilers become a bet at -133 or better, a long way from -198.
The lineups are unknown here. This page states nothing about who plays on 1 October. Check the lineups before you bet.
The total and the puck line
The total is 6.5, over -115 and under -105. The Canucks’ games went over 6.5 in 46 of 82 and the Oilers’ in 48 of 82. The Canucks’ home games averaged 6.36 goals, the Oilers’ road games 6.54.
The two over rates, 56.1% and 58.5%, average 57.3%. The over at -115 is priced at 51.1% with the margin removed, a gap of 6.2 points toward the over. Lean over 6.5 at -115. It stays a lean, because the only method this page stakes money on is the moneyline one.
The puck line has the Oilers -1.5 at +120 and the Canucks +1.5 at -142. The Oilers won by two goals or more in 28 of 82 games. The Canucks lost by two or more in 40 of 82, close to half. Averaged, Oilers -1.5 comes in 41.5% of the time against 43.7% priced. Pass on the puck line.
