Buffalo at Toledo Best Pick, Prediction and Odds

Our number has Toledo by 17.6. No line yet: Toledo is a bet at -14.5 or shorter, Buffalo at +21 or more.

No spread had been posted for this game as of 28 September 2026. Our number is Toledo by 17.6, and a side becomes a bet when the spread sits at least 3 points away from it. Until there is a price, the call is the range.

How the number is built

The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.

Toledo is 7-0 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 27.9 points a game across 7 games. Buffalo is 3-4 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 7.4 a game across 7 games. The difference is 35.3 points. Half of it is 17.6.

That is 14 games, 7 on each side, and both clear the 4-game minimum.

Toledo at home

Seven home games against FBS teams, seven wins. The 2025 five were one-sided: 45-21 over Western Kentucky, 45-3 over Akron, 45-10 over Kent State, 42-3 over Northern Illinois and 38-9 over Ball State. The smallest of those margins was 24 points.

This season is where the sample gets closer. Toledo beat Temple 49-48 on 19 September, a one-point game. It then beat San Diego State 41-16 on 26 September. Six of the seven home wins came by 24 or more, and the Temple game is the only one that finished inside a touchdown.

Buffalo on the road

Buffalo’s road sample is more even than its 2026 results suggest. In 2025 it won 31-28 at Kent State, 28-21 at Massachusetts and 28-3 at Bowling Green, and lost 23-10 at Minnesota and 38-19 at Central Michigan.

The two 2026 road games were both losses: 33-20 at Florida International on 12 September and 55-13 at Penn State on 19 September. The Penn State game is the heaviest result in Buffalo’s sample, a 42-point loss. Without it, Buffalo’s other six road games average a 1.7-point loss.

2026 so far

Buffalo is 2-2 and has scored 21.2 points a game while allowing 33.2. Both wins came against teams outside the FBS, 21-17 over UAlbany and 31-28 over Robert Morris, and the method leaves both out. Against its two FBS opponents Buffalo scored 16.5 a game and allowed 44.0.

Toledo is 3-1, scoring 43.2 and allowing 26.0. It lost 30-20 at Michigan State in its opener and beat Central Connecticut 63-10, a team outside the FBS. Neither team has played a Mid-American Conference game yet.

Last season

Toledo went 8-5 in 2025 and won by 17.5 points a game. It ended with a 27-22 loss to Louisville on 23 December at a neutral site. Buffalo went 5-7 and won by 0.5 a game.

The two teams did not meet in 2025.

ESPN’s FPI gives Toledo a 93.5% chance to win. The spread is the question, and our number puts it at 17.6.

Pick: no bet until a line is posted

Our number is Toledo by 17.6, and the threshold is 3 points.

Toledo becomes the bet at -14.5 or shorter, where the gap is 3.1. At -15 the gap is 2.6, a pass. Buffalo becomes the bet at +21 or more, a gap of 3.4. At +20.5 the gap is 2.9, and that is a pass too.

Any line from Toledo -15 to -20.5 is no bet.

What changes it

The line, first. This page is re-read the week of the game.

The two 2026 results, second. Toledo’s one-point win over Temple and Buffalo’s 42-point loss at Penn State pull the number in opposite directions. Both stay in, because the method counts every game.

Availability is the third, and this page does not state it. Check the injury report before you bet.
