How the number is built
The method is one clause: our number is half the difference between the home team’s average margin at home and the visitor’s average margin on the road, against FBS teams only, 2025 and 2026 together.
Ohio is 6-0 at home against FBS teams over that span, winning by 13.8 points a game across 6 games. Central Michigan is 3-6 on the road against FBS teams, losing by 15.8 a game across 9 games. The difference is 29.6 points. Half of it is 14.8.
That is 15 games, split 6 and 9. Both clear the 4-game minimum.
Ohio at home
Ohio has not lost a home game to an FBS team in this span. In 2025 it beat West Virginia 17-10, Bowling Green 35-20, Northern Illinois 48-21, Miami (OH) 24-20 and Massachusetts 42-14.
The only 2026 home game against an FBS team was a 29-27 win over Jacksonville State on 12 September. Three of the six wins were by 7 points or fewer. The average of 13.8 comes from the other three, each by 15 or more.
Central Michigan on the road
The road sample covers a range of 81 points from best to worst. Central Michigan won 27-6 at Bowling Green in 2025, and lost 63-3 at Michigan the same season.
The other 2025 road games were a 16-14 win at San José State, a 28-16 win at Kent State, and losses of 45-17 at Pittsburgh, 28-22 at Akron and 24-21 at Western Michigan. In 2026 it lost 38-7 at New Mexico on 5 September and 52-3 at Miami (FL) on 26 September.
One result weighs heavily on the average. Take out the Michigan game and the other eight average a 10.3-point loss, which would put our number at Ohio by 12.0. The method keeps it.
