The Oaks is a Grade 1 event open to three-year old fillies. The race covers 1¼ miles in total distance on the turf track at Belmont. The total prize money for this year’s event has been set at $700,000.
Horse Racing Nation has identified 10 fillies as probable entries as the official field continues to come together. Leading the way with a HRN rating of 6.10 is Con Lima. Trained by Todd Pletcher, this three-year old Texas-bred filly is coming off a big win in this year’s Grade 3 Wonder Again Stakes at Belmont on June 3. She covered the 1 1/8 miles on turf in 1:50.84.
Sired by Commissioner, this was her third victory in her last four stakes events going back to late February. She has finished first or second in 10 of 11 races over the course of her racing career.
After placing second in the Wonder Again, trainer Christophe Clement is expected to run Plum Ali in Saturday’s race as well. This Kentucky-bred filly has finished in the money five times in six races including three victories as a juvenile. The only exception was a fifth-place run in last year’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf against some stiff competition.

When: Saturday, July 10th 2021
Where: Belmont Park
This Grade 1 invitational turf race for three-year old Thoroughbreds covers 1 ¼ miles in total distance. The total prize money up for grabs in Saturday’s featured race at Belmont is $1 million.
The big money should bring out a deep field in talent with nine horses listed as probable by HRN. Pletcher could be going for the two-race sweep on Saturday behind Sainthood as the class of this field. His HRN rating stands at 6.47 coming off a victory in the Grade 3 Pennine Ridge Stakes at Belmont on May 29. His winning time in that 1 1/8-mile run on dirt was 1:50.57.
The Kentucky-bred three-year old qualified for this year’s Kentucky Derby and ended up 11 th in the final running order. The son of Mshawish finished in the money in three prior races including a second-place run in the Grade 3 Jeff Ruby Stakes at Turfway Park in late March.
The biggest competition for Saturday’s likely favorite would be Hard Love with the second- highest HRN rating (5.48) in the projected field. Trained by Jonathan Thomas, the sire of Kitten’s Joy has won three of his four career runs. Two of those victories came at Belmont in non-stakes events.
Moving down the list of probable entries for this year’s Belmont Derby, trainer Steve Asmussen is looking to run Hidden Enemy as one of the top contenders in the field. This could be an excellent show horse behind Sainthood and Hard Love.
Trainer William Mott could run Du Jour as one of his top three-year old turf racers and Palazzi is on the list for trainer Mark Casse.
