The 2022 MLS season kicks off this weekend with all 28 teams – Charlotte FC is new – in action. New York FC is the defending MLS Cup champion winning its first title since joining the league in 2014.
This year, there is no real clear-cut favorite to win it all in 2022. That could change as the season moves on. Here is a look at the best MLS Week 1 predictions and odds.
Los Angeles FC vs. Colorado Rapids
Pick: Draw No Bet – Colorado +280
The 2021 campaign was a tough one for Los Angeles FC. They won just 12 matches all season a year after winning the Supporter’s Shield. They will have a new coach in Steve Cherundolo and the shake-up should do some good.
Colorado led the Western Conference last year with 61 points on a 17-10-7 record. They return a roster flush with talent, but at +280 the Rapids are just too good to pass up.
FC Dallas vs. Toronto FC
Pick: FC Dallas -110
Neither FC Dallas nor Toronto FC had a great 2021 campaign. FC Dallas had just seven wins last year while Toronto had just six.
Both teams are looking to get off to a good start in 2022. Over their last five games of last season, FC Dallas went 1-2-2. Toronto didn’t win a match and finished 0-3-2.
However, in the series between the two teams, FC Dallas is 7-2-1 in the last ten games against Toronto.

DC United vs. Charlotte FC
Pick: Draw +300
It’s the first-ever MLS match for expansion Charlotte FC. DC United is expected to be in the playoff race later this season. In the preseason friendlies, DC United did not lose and don’t forget they are playing at home.
DC United may be looking past Charlotte and may take them too lightly. The new addition to the MLS will want to make a statement in its first game. As a result, they will surprise and keep this one close.
Inter Miami CF vs. Chicago Fire
Pick: Chicago +210
Inter Miami CF finished a disappointing 11th last season. They did make some offseason moves – FB Deandre Yedlin, for one – to improve their roster for 2022.
Chicago was a bit more active in the offseason. They made some serious noise when they brought in Kacper Przybylko, who scored 40 goals in 96 appearances for Philadelphia. The Fire simply has more talent and it show today.
San Jose Earthquakes vs. New York Red Bulls
Pick: NY Red Bulls +160
The Red Bulls are excited about some new additions to the roster. Lewis Morgan is one. San Jose lost MLS all-time leading scorer Chris Wondolowski (171 goals) to retirement.
New York has dominated this series with four wins in the last five matches. Each of the last three matches has produced four or more goals. New York opens the season with a big win.
