NHL underdogs still find the going pretty tough this season. They have won just 35 percent of the time so far in 2021-22. The key for bettors is finding the right NHL underdog.
On the puck line, NHL underdogs have done a little better. Against the spread, NHL dogs are 474-332 (58.8%) this season. The road underdog has fared really well covering 60.9 percent (309-193) of the time.
Which ones will hit tonight? Here’s a look at the top NHL underdog picks for Thursday, February 24, 2022.
Minnesota Wild vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Wild vs. Maple Leafs Predictions
PICK: WILD +135
Toronto has lost five of their last seven games and three straight. The losses were ugly too. The Maple Leafs lost to Columbus in overtime after losing to St. Louis and the worst team in the NHL, Montreal. And, the losses to the Blues and Canadiens were each by three goals.
The Leafs have allowed at least four goals in three straight games. Minnesota has beaten Toronto once already this season. Minnesota is 15-10-2 on the road this season and don’t forget those NHL road underdogs.
Washington Capitals vs. NY Rangers
Capitals vs. Rangers Predictions
PICK: CAPITALS +110
This is an important Metropolitan Division game as Washington trails the Rangers by four points. The Capitals have won three of their past four and have the better offense in this matchup.
Washington is scoring nearly four games per game over their last eight. The Rangers aren’t even close. New York is averaging barely over two goals (2.14) per game over their last eight. Only once did the Rangers score more than three goals in that span.
The Capitals have won each of their past five games on the road. They will make it six tonight.
Dallas Stars vs. Nashville Predators
Stars vs. Predators Predictions
PICK: STARS +130
The Stars won in overtime last night to give them 10 wins in their last 14 games. Dallas has also now won six of its last seven on the road.
Braden Holtby will start in goal for Dallas instead of regular starter Jake Oettinger who is 15-6 with a .921 save percentage. Nashville, which got its first win in five games on Monday night beating Florida 6- 4, will see that as an advantage. Holtby will too.
While the public is busy pounding Nashville because of the rest advantage and Holtby in goal, we’ll back the road underdog which is doing pretty well in the NHL this season.
Calgary Flames vs. Vancouver Canucks
Flames vs. Canucks Predictions
PICK: CANUCKS +145
Calgary is the best team in the Pacific Division. The Flames have won 10 straight and 12 of their last 13 games. One of those wins was over Vancouver though it was a 1-0 victory in overtime.
The Canucks have won three of their last four games scoring 17 goals in those four. Vancouver hasn’t beaten Calgary since last spring. That win came in Vancouver where tonight’s game will be played. It’s a one-game road trip for the Flames. That will throw Calgary off and Vancouver will capitalize with the upset.
