Three NBA Over/Unders to Consider for Wednesday’s Action

NBA betting action never stops, and we’ve got three games to target for Wednesday night’s action. With these games, the focus is on the over/unders and finding the best value to bet.

Where to Bet on the NBA

Let’s break down three of our favorite over/unders for Wednesday.

Minnesota Timberwolves at Chicago Bulls Picks

Timberwolves vs. Bulls Betting Report

Best Bet: Over 227.5

When considering an over in an NBA game, I tend to focus on a few key factors, including recent performance and quality of the players on the floor. While those are more in your face, the subtle factors matter even more, those being: defensive efficiency ratings and possessions per game.

The logic here is simple. A high number of possessions per game suggests a faster pace of play.

More possessions equals more opportunities to put the ball in the basket. More opportunities should, in turn, lend itself to more points.

That brings us to my favorite over of the night between the Minnesota Timberwolves and Chicago Bulls.

This game is a perfect storm of my favorite metrics overlapping. Both teams are 20th or worst in defensive efficiency, while Chicago has the fourth most possessions per game and Minnesota has the sixth most possessions per game.

By more traditional metrics, both teams are allowing an average of 114.8 points per game to the opposition. That’s right, the exact same number to the 10th of a degree, which is tied for 24th in the NBA.

Expect to see a lot of trips down the floor for both teams, with defense a scarcity.

Boston Celtics at Atlanta Hawks Picks

Celtics vs. Hawks Betting Report

Best Bet: Over 227.5

This over pick comes from the recency and familiarity of these two teams. This is the third meeting between the Celtics and Hawks in the last week, with the two previous games each hitting their over.

Both teams have the big names to help the over’s cause. Trae Young scored 31 and 40 in these two games, while Jayson Tatum has gone over 25 in each.

The Celtics’ lack of size down low has been a problem on the defensive end, with Clint Capela scoring 24 in each game.

I’d expect a similar result to the first two games, with each team getting their chances.

It’s a small sample size (six games), but the Celtics’ overs are 4-2 when Boston is playing the second of a back-to-back.

Expert NBA Predictions

Los Angeles Lakers at Utah Jazz Picks

Lakers vs. Jazz Betting Report

Best Bet: Under 220

This is a marquee matchup on Wednesday night between two of the West’s best teams. The allure of two big teams makes it a tremendous opportunity to take the under, with the public’s perception likely driving the over/under line higher than it deserves.

This season, the Lakers and Jazz have been two of the worst teams against overs.

Los Angeles is 12-20 against the over, while Utah is 14-16-1. These records are in large part thanks to each team’s strong defense. In points per game to opposition, Los Angeles and Utah are second and third in the NBA.

By more advanced metrics, their defensive efficiencies come in at first and second in the NBA. Do not underestimate what a strong defense can do to the flow of a game.

The under here is strong value.
