The Open, aka the British Open, is in the books and winner Collin Morikawa is taking a deserved week off before representing the United States in the Olympics. Morikawa won his second Major with the Open following his PGA Championship win in 2020. So far, since he became a pro in 2019, he’s won five times.

Morikawa may not be in the field but Dustin Johnson and several other big names are and they are riding the top of the favorites list to win the 3M Open at TPC Twin Cities in Blaine, Minnesota. Johnson comes in as the lone favorite at +700 with Louis Oosthuizen and Tony Finau both at +1400.

The same could be said for Johnson. Even though he was not a contender to win at The Open he did manage a top-ten finish (T8) and went seven under. Here are the favorites through +1800 to win the 2021 3M Open outright according to Intertops.

TPC Twin Cities may play similarly to Royal St George’s during the weekend rounds at The Open. High temperatures and a lack of wind and rain made for perfect shot-making conditions on a course that became more forgiving as the tournament progressed.

That is when comparing to past Opens where sideways sea fueled rain and gusts of wind turned everything brown as balls were lost deep natural rough. Twin Cities will be as green as the course was in Sandwich England.

Another similarity will be the need to gain strokes with a putter and the greens themselves. If you watched the Open then you may have picked up on the movement of the ball after being struck by the putter. The greens this week are around 6,500 square feet with plenty of undulation and drain-off areas so expect some missed putts!

Twin Cities is not packed with trees but there are a bunch more than you saw last week at The Open. Those players who took part in the Barbasol in Kentucky should feel right at home!

2021 3M Open Picks

Louis Oosthuizen +1400

Oosthuizen was the leader after three rounds at The Open before a couple of bunker shots took him out of the running. You can bet he’ll have something to prove coming into the opening round on Thursday. Oosthuizen has finished his last six events in good fashion going T3, 2nd, T18, T2, T8, and 2nd respectfully. He’s only missed one cut this season.

Bubba Watson +3300

Bubba Watson has finished top twenty or better nine times this season and he is coming off of an impressive T6 at the Travelers. Watson is 7th in PGA “Off the Tee” stats this year and has been showing some of his old magic around the greens as of late and TPC Twin Cities is a great place to have a hot putter.

Luke List +5000

Luke List has been on the verge of winning seemingly for weeks, or months. His newborn son is out of the hospital and you could almost see the relief peel away as List started raking up Birdies at the John Deere two weeks ago. He finished T4 then and then went T5 last week at the Barbasol. He can crush a ball for distance and his putter is improving.

Others: Everyone is pointing to Dustin Johnson at +700 but I’m leaning toward Tony Finau at +1400 for the better value. Seamus Power (+3300) almost pulled off the win last week at the Barbasol before losing in a playoff.
