MLS Sportsbooks

Most of the MLS is off this weekend as a number of international friendlies take place on Saturday and Sunday as well as some FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.

Here’s a look at the MLS Week 5 predictions and odds.

Charlotte FC vs. FC Cincinnati

Pick: CHARLOTTE FC -120

Fresh off its first-ever MLS victory, Charlotte FC will try to make it two in a row as they host FC Cincinnati. Cincinnati has owned the MLS Wooden Spoon given to the team with the worst record for the past two seasons. They actually won their last two matches.

FC Cincinnati had lost eight straight matches dating back to last season before a pair of wins over Orlando and Inter Miami.

Charlotte finally scored multiple goals in a match with a 3-1 win over the Revolution. Like this week, last week’s match was at home which may give the expansion team an edge.

In terms of possession, Charlotte ranks 18th in MLS at 47.6 percent. That’s a bit higher than Cincinnati which ranks 24th at 43.5. Give the advantage to the expansion team with better possession percentage and the fact they are playing at home again.

MLS Picks

Sporting KC vs. Real Salt Lake

Pick: SPORTING KC -110

There’s a reason why Sporting KC is favored in this match despite having a record of 1-0-3. Real Salt Lake has yet to lose with a record of 3-1-0, but the visitors will have their hands full in this one.

Real Salt Lake is second in the West standings and Sporting KC is 12th, but two things stand out. Sporting KC is at home where they have won their only match this season. The second thing is that Sporting KC is among the best in MLS in possession metrics.

Sporting KC is in possession an average of 54 percent of the time. Greater possession numbers typically means more scoring opportunities which means more goals. It has worked out exactly as planned just yet as KC has just three goals this season, but they are about explode.

Real Salt Lake is a bottom tier possession team. Their three wins are over teams in 10th place or worse in their division.

MLS Betting Guide

Portland vs. Orlando

Pick: DRAW +245

It’s hard to win on the road in MLS, but Orlando did it last week with a 1-0 victory over the Galaxy. Portland is 1-2-1 thus far and is coming off a 4-1 loss to Dallas.

The Timbers haven’t lost at home in their last six matches with four wins and two draws. Orlando is 2-1- 1 in its last four matches on the road. Last week’s loss was Portland’s first in ten matches. They will keep this one close.
