The NASCAR two-week vacation is over as NBC coverage of the Olympics winds down. That means it’s time to drop the green flag at a track that was skipped last year due to COVID-19. Even though the race was skipped last season it does not change the fact that Chase Elliott, the winner of the 2018 and 2019 races, is still the favorite at +200.
Elliott won the 2019 Go Bowling at the Glen race in front of Martin Truex Jr by leading all but 1 lap. In 2018 two drivers also finished first and second with Elliott as the leader for 54 of the 90 lap race. Truex comes in at +650.
All of this week’s favorite drivers are from Richard Childress Racing (RCR) and Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR). That’s an odds list top-heavy with Chevrolet and Toyota drivers. Joey Logano is the closest Ford driver coming in at +1400 with fellow Blue Oval driver Kevin Harvick even further down the list at +2800.
A quick look at the stats provides an easy answer to why Chevy’s and Toyota’s are riding at the top as you have to go back to 2015 to find a Ford winner at the Glen. Here are the favorite drivers, through +700, to win the Quaker State 400 outright according to Intertops.

2021 Go Bowling at the Glen Predictions
Chase Elliott +200
There’s a reason Chase Elliott is the favorite. He’s the best road course racer in NASCAR and he’s won the last two races at Watkins Glen. And he drives for RCR and they’ve won the most Watkins Glen Cup Series races with a total of eight. Elliott also is in a Chevrolet and “Bow Tie” drivers have won 19 of 32 Cup races on the course.
Kyle Busch +700
Kyle Busch is no slouch at Watkins Glen! JGR Drivers are right behind RCR with 7 team wins among 3 drivers and Kyle scored two of those. Just for Trivia – Tony Stewart won there five times, four for JGR. According to NASCAR stats, Busch is only second behind Martin Truex Jr in Watkins Glen fantasy rankings. His last ten visits to the track have resulted in a win and 8 top-ten finishes.
Brad Keselowski +3300
I had to throw a Ford driver into the mix and that’s going to be Brad Keselowski. It’s his last time at the track for Team Penske as he’s changing rides in 2022. He’s also among the best active Cup Series Ford drivers when it comes to the Glen. His last ten starts there have included 6 top-ten and 4 runs fifth or better.
Others: Martin Truex Jr won at Watkins Glen when he was with Furniture Row Racing. He’s the favorite when looking at NASCAR fantasy stats and his last four starts there have yielded 2nd, 2nd, 1st, and a 7th place run respectively. However, his road course races this season have not been that great. Kurt Busch has only led three laps at Watkins Glen in his ten Cup Series career. The flip side is that eight of those races were 11th and better with one DNF.
