Bet These Four MLB Players to Go Hitless Today (August 10)

When we talk about these one-on-one matchups between batter and pitcher, which is really what the game of baseball is all about, we are on the lookout for certain situations, especially if it is connected to a player or pitcher prop.

What we want to imagine is that just knowing that one guy is going to face another, there is fear or horror in a guy’s eyes, because he knows he just can’t do anything against the guy.

So we present some of those situations for you today, hoping we get some value out of them.

Here we go:

Best MLB Hitting Props Picks for Tuesday, August 10th

Dodgers vs. Phillies Predictions

RHYS HOSKINS (Philadelphia Phillies) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+105)

Opponent: LOS ANGELES DODGERS (starter – Max Scherzer)

Time: 7:05 PM ET

Undoubtedly a guy like Max Scherzer is going to “own” a lot of hitters over the years, so it’s often difficult to come up with just one player off any given team to focus on.

And there are choices in this instance. Philadelphia catcher JT Realmuto, for example, has batted .102 lifetime against Scherzer, but of his five hits against him, two of them have been home runs. Andrew McCutchen has had a career that has included MVP-type seasons and seasons of decline, and he is 8-of-39 against Mad Max with 16 strikeouts.

Rhys Hopkins does not have as much time in the batter’s box against Scherzer, but it has absolutely not been fruitful. In 24 plate appearances, he’s drawn one walk, had one hit and struckout a dozen times. So at this rather inviting price, he’s our guy.

MLB Money Line Odds

Diamondbacks vs. Giants Predictions

ALEX DICKERSON (San Francisco Giants) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+110)

Opponent: ARIZONA DIAMONDBACKS (starter: Zac Gallen)

Time: 9:45 PM ET

For this one we had a choice too. Our initial instinct was to go with Brandon Belt, who is 1-for-9 lifetime against Zac Gallen, with no extra base hits. And we were sure we’d get a much better price. But we really didn’t (+130 for the under), and besides, Belt has a hot bat right now, having hit four homers in his last three games as he has successfully come off the injured list.

Alex Dickerson becomes more logical at this point, yes, he has a home run against Gallen, but it’s his only base hit in eleven official at bats. And he is not the same kind of threat as Belt right now.

White Sox vs. Twins Predictions

ANDRELTON SIMMONS (Minnesota Twins) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+135)

Opponent: CHICAGO WHITE SOX (starter – Dallas Keuchel)

Time: 8:10 PM ET

I think we may have been down this road before, but it’s a relatively safe road to be on. Dallas Keuchel has admittedly not flashed great form of late (6.00 ERA in last seven starts), but he has still enjoyed a very productive matchup with Minnesota shortstop Andrelton Simmons, who we are not picking on, but who happens to show up a lot here because he goes dry against certain pitchers.

One of them is Keuchel, against whom he’s had two hits in 21 career at bats, and has only gotten on base once through a walk, meaning that he’s got a .136 on base and .232 OPS in this head-to-head battle. And when you have that, you simply can’t resist at this price.

MLB Money Line Predictions

Reds vs. Braves Predictions

JOC PEDERSON (Atlanta Braves) UNDER 0.5 HITS (+135)

Opponent: CINCINNATI REDS (Sonny Gray)

Time: 7:20 PM ET

It is quite possible that Joc Pederson will have to wait for the second half of this ballgame to give himself a shot to reach base. Sonny Gray has exhibited quite a bit of control over him in their encounters, holding him hitless in ten trips to the plate (NO walks), with seven strikeouts. So let’s just say we wouldn’t be all that surprised if Pederson had a bit of a “complex” going up there. At this price, you have to swing away.
