Top Contenders to Win the 2022 Monaco Grand Prix
Heading into the seventh race of the 2022 F1 season, we’ve only seen two drivers win races.
Charles Leclerc has won the Bahrain GP and Australian GP. Max Verstappen has opened the season with wins in the Saudi Arabia GP, Italian GP, Miami GP and Spain GP.
Verstappen has now won three consecutive races and he leads the F1 driver standings with 110 points. Leclerc is close behind in the standings with 104 points and Sergio Perez is in third place (85 points).
The Monaco GP wasn’t held in 2020 due to COVID-19, but Verstappen won the race in 2021. Hamilton won the race in 2019 with Mercedes and he’s priced at 20/1 to win the race on Sunday.
Hamilton only has one podium finish in 2022, which came in the opening race of the season.
Are Sainz or Perez Worth Betting On in Monaco?
Carlos Sainz (+1600) and Perez (+1800) are priced #3 and #4 in the winners market, but are they worth betting on? While there’s some value in alternate markets, we won’t be betting on either to win the race.
Perez struggled at Monaco last year, starting #9 on the grid and finishing off the podium (4th place). He has been performing well in 2022 with three 2nd place finishes in the last four races.
It wouldn’t surprise me if Perez finishes on the podium, but Sainz is the better option for a podium finish. Sainz finished in 2nd place in last year’s Monaco GP and he has three podium finishes already in 2022.
2022 Monaco Grand Prix Picks
Best Bet: Verstappen (+130)
We’re a little surprised Leclerc is favored to win the race on Sunday. Leclerc has competed in the Monaco GP three times and he has yet to finish the complete race in those attempts.
Leclerc didn’t start the race in 2021, he had to retire in 2019 (accident damage) and in 2018 he ended up being classified due to finishing over 90% of the race, but didn’t finish due to a collision.
Verstappen has had much better results in Monaco and he’s in better form. Verstappen will look to grow his lead in the 2022 F1 driver standings with his fourth consecutive victory on Sunday.
We recommend betting on Verstappen at +130 now, as the odds may drop closer to the race.
