There was a chance to have four big MLB Playoff games on Sunday, but that won’t be the case. Instead, there will be just one game taking place on Sunday and it will be the New York Mets hosting the San Diego Padres.
Only having one game on the schedule does take away some betting options, but there are still a couple of different bets to make on this game. Betting the moneyline and the over/under are two great choices.
San Diego won the series opener on Friday night and the Mets bounced back with a win on Saturday night. The winner of tonight’s Padres vs. Mets game will move on to face the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NLDS.
The Mets are the moneyline betting favorites at -136 and the over/under is set at 6.5 total runs on Sunday night.
Padres Showing Off Power
The San Diego Padres have faced a pair of former Cy Young pitchers in this series, but it hasn’t slowed them down. San Diego has belted five home runs so far in these two games, but they can’t always rely on the home run ball.
The Padres have not been great at stringing hits together and that’s going to be a problem on Sunday night. San Diego is going to need Joe Musgrove to take control on the mound, as runs will be hard to come by.
Musgrove is good enough to shut down the Mets offense all night long and it’s going to come down to getting a big hit when needed.
Bassitt Must Deliver For Mets
After Jacob DeGrom did his part on the mound on Saturday night, it will now be up to Chris Bassitt to do the same on Sunday. Bassitt mostly gets overlooked as he pitches in the same rotation as DeGrom and Scherzer, but he has had a big season.
Pete Alonso belted a home run in the win on Saturday night and the Mets are going to need their stars to shine bright in this game. Jeff McNeil hit .326 this season to lead New York on offense. The Mets are going to have to scratch and claw for some runs.
New York has the advantage of playing this game at home, but they will still have to be sharp to win it.
Padres vs. Mets Prediction for Game 3
If you are a fan of great pitching, then this should be a terrific game for you to sit back and watch. Musgrove and Bassitt might be the number three pitchers on their respective teams, but each pitcher can be dominant as well.
One big swing of the bat is going to decide the outcome of this game and it should be the Mets that are the team that gets that big hit. San Diego managed to get off to a fast start in this series, but it will be the Mets that advance to the NLDS.
The best bet to make in this MLB game is to take the New York Mets -136 and also take the under 6.5 total runs.
