The Los Angeles Dodgers have won nine of their last ten games. The New York Mets are streaking as well winning eight of their last ten. Both teams lead their respective divisions.
In the American League, the New York Yankees (70-37) continue to own the best record but not by much. The Yankees have lost three straight and six of their last ten. Houston (70-38) is hot on the Yankees tail.
The Astros scored nine runs last night in a win over Cleveland. Atlanta did the same in a win over the Mets. Can both put up similar numbers today?
Here’s a look at the best MLB team total picks for Saturday, August 6th 2022.
Atlanta Braves – UNDER 3.5 Runs (-140)
*This pick is for game 2 of the doubleheader today.
The Braves go up against Mets ace Max Scherzer who is 7-2 with a 2.13 ERA this season. Scherzer doesn’t allow many baserunners and, as a result, does not allow many runs.
Since returning from his injury in early July, Scherzer has made six starts. In those six starts, he has allowed 0, 1, or 2 runs in each outing.
One of the trips to the mound was against Atlanta. On July 11, Scherzer held the Braves to a single earned run in a 4-1 Mets victory. The New York bullpen ranks 10th in MLB in ERA. They will help Scherzer finish what he starts.
St. Louis Cardinals – OVER 3.5 (-140)
Jordan Montgomery makes his Cardinals debut against his former team – the New York Yankees. It’s the Yankees starting pitcher that will put the Cards over this prop.
Domingo German (1-1, 6.39) is not the same pitcher he was in 2019 when he won 18 games for the Yankees. He has only made three starts this season and he hasn’t pitched all that well.
Opponents have a .304 batting average against German and the Cardinals are crushing the ball as of late. Over their last eight games, St. Louis has scored 44 runs, an average of well over five per game.
Detroit Tigers – UNDER 2.5 (-125)
Tampa Bay pitcher Shane McClanahan is one of the favorites to capture the AL Cy Young award this season. He is 10-4 with a 2.07 ERA so far. Tonight, he will go up against one of the weakest lineups in baseball.
The Tigers are the worst scoring team in baseball averaging 3.19 runs per game. Over their last six, Detroit has scored 1 or 2 runs three times.
McClanahan is too dominant of a pitcher and the game will be played in pitcher-friendly Comerica Park.
San Francisco Giants – OVER 4.5 (-115)
The Giants will take on Oakland and right-hander Adam Oller tonight. San Francisco is reeling after four straight losses to the Dodgers. They will take out their frustration on Oller tonight.
Oller is just 1-4 for the season and his ERA is a whopping 7.68. Since returning to the A’s rotation in mid- July, Oller has allowed at least three earned runs in each of his three starts.
The Giants are ninth in runs per game scoring 4.54.
