The Pittsburgh Penguins can end their series with the New York Rangers tonight with a win at Madison Square Garden. The Pens have been virtually unstoppable in their last two games.
President’s Cup winner Florida is locked in a battle with Washington. The two teams have split games on each other’s home ice. It’s the same out West where Dallas and Calgary are tied up 2-2.
How will these crucial Game 5s play out tonight? Here are the NHL playoffs picks for Wednesday, May 11th 2022.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. NY Rangers
Best Bet: OVER 6
The Penguins have gone off for seven goals in each of the last two games. Both games were played in the comforts of Pittsburgh’s home – PPG Paints Arena.
The flurry of goals pushed the total of Games 3 and 4 Over. In fact, all four games in the series thus far have gone Over.
With the Penguins having a shot at closing out the series with a win tonight, the Rangers will have to tighten up the defense. Goalie Igor Shesterkin was the NHL’s best during the regular season, but he has been shelled by the Penguins in this series.
The Pens average 35 shots per game for the season and 38 in the last ten against the Rangers. In the four games in this series, Pittsburgh’s shot totals are 83, 41, 37, and 41. The 83 was from Game 1’s triple-overtime slugfest.
Pittsburgh will continue its barrage of shots and the Rangers will continue to take advantage the Penguins backup goalies. This game, like the other games in the series, goes Over.
Washington Capitals vs. Florida Panthers
Best Bet: PANTHERS -225
Florida was expected to roll right over the Washington Capitals in this series, but that has not happened. The Panthers, the highest-scoring team in the NHL during the regular season, are 12th out of the 16 playoff teams in scoring. Florida has yet to score a power play goal.
The Capitals actually won Game 1 in Florida and now they are faced with a similar situation. The problem is, historically, they haven’t done well on the road in Florida. The Caps are 2-5 SU in their last seven trips to the Sunshine State. Washington is also 2-6 SU in its last eight games.
Florida, on the other hand, is 15-5 SU in its last 20 games overall and 12-2 SU in the Panthers last 14 home games. On their home ice, the Panthers prevail.
Dallas Stars vs. Calgary Flames
Best Bet: FLAMES -1.5 (+123)
The Flames offense finally started to break down the Dallas defense in Game 4 with a 4-1 win. Calgary’s Johnny Gaudreau has been outstanding all season. He finished tied for second with 115 regular season points. Matthew Tkachuk also reached 100 points (104) and the Flames pair is giving the Stars all they can handle.
Calgary went 25-9-7 on its home ice and averaged 3.78 goals per game. Goaltender Jacob Markstrom already has a shutout win over Dallas in this series. He’ll put the clamps on Dallas, which finished the regular season at No. 24 in scoring.
