The 2021-22 NHL season is slowly winding down. Only Florida and Colorado have clinched playoff spots, but the field is beginning to become clearer every day.
The Avs and Panthers will battle for the President’s Cup while the rest of the league jockeys for playoff berths.
Underdogs continue to win 35.6 percent of all NHL games this season. Road underdogs have fared slightly better (35.8%) than home underdogs (35.4%).
With ten games on tap tonight, percentages tell us that three to four of them will be successful and come out on top.
Here are the top NHL underdog picks for Thursday, April 7th 2022.
Montreal Canadiens vs. New Jersey Devils
Pick: CANADIENS +135
Neither the Canadiens nor the Devils have much left to play for this season. Both teams have been eliminated from the postseason.
Tonight, team morale will play a big factor in the outcome. Jack Hughes has been shelved for the season by the Devils. This will be New Jersey’s first game since the news.
Montreal will have goaltender Carey Price back on the bench. Price hasn’t played all season due to personal reasons, and he isn’t likely to play tonight but his presence could be a factor.
The Canadiens also have a recent win over Tampa Bay which will give them the confidence they need to pull off tonight’s upset.
Pittsburgh Penguins vs. NY Rangers
Pick: RANGERS +100

The Rangers are 7-2-1 in their last ten games. Two of those victories were over the Penguins. New York holds a 2-1 lead in the season series with Pittsburgh and the last time the Rangers faced the Pens at home New York won 5-1.
New York has had a great second half of the season. They actually have four more points than the Penguins in the same number of games during the second half of the season.
Pittsburgh is just 2-5 in its last seven games. This is likely a preview of a first-round playoff series. The Rangers excel at home where they are 14-6 SU in their last 20 games. New York is sixth in the NHL in home win percentage (.727).
Getting the Rangers at plus money is a bonus.
Calgary Flames vs. San Jose Sharks
Pick: SHARKS +180
Yes, Calgary is the best team in the Pacific Division, but what’s not to like about the Sharks in this matchup?
These two teams have played each other three times this season. San Jose has won all three games.
The Sharks are one of the most volatile teams in the NHL this season. Since beating Calgary on March 22, San Jose is 1-5 including losses in each of the last four games. The Flames have won their last two, but they head into tonight after having played last night.
A rested San Jose pulls the unthinkable – a season sweep of the Pacific Division leader Calgary.
