PGA: 2021 U.S. Open Odds, Predictions and Betting Preview

The U.S. Open is next up on the schedule and the field is packed with the best golfers from around the globe. Tiger Woods won the last time the event was held at Torrey Pines in San Diego California in 2008. Woods won’t be playing due to his injuries from a car crash earlier this year but there are plenty of players to consider this week.

One of those players is last year’s U.S. Open winner Bryson DeChambeau who comes in at +1600 along with a handful of others including Brooks Koepka and Jordan Spieth. Both Koepka and Spieth have won the U.S. Open with Koepka doing it back-to-back years in 2017 and 2018.

Where to Bet on the US Open

Another former winner of the Open knotted at +1600 is Rory McIlroy who won back in 2011. As you probably already guessed, this week’s favorites are going to be a who’s who of past winners of this event!

That being said, once you get past the obvious players that the media and oddsmakers are focusing on, there are plenty of options available. Some of which are also past Open winners. But first, here are the favorites through +1600 to win the 2021 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines outright according to Intertops.

Jon Rahm +1000

Dustin Johnson +1200

Brooks Koepka +1600

Bryson DeChambeau +1600

Popular Ways to Bet on the US Open

The Torrey Pines South Course is hard enough just as a high-end municipal facility. But the USGA loves to make things tough for players during U.S. Open week. The roughs will be deeper and the hole locations will be tweaked. It’s a source of contention every year.

Hopefully, they won’t go overboard as the South Course already offers plenty of Challenges including one of the hardest opening holes on the schedule. No. one is a tight fading dogleg to the right that’s protected by bunkers and rough. Nothing builds confidence like a bogey on the first hole!

Ask Tiger Woods who famously double-bogeyed No. 1 before his 2008 win.

I mentioned a “tight fairway” above, and Torrey Pines has plenty of tight fairways. But they are not tight in the traditional sense where a long line of trees marks the edge of the fairway. The course is in California, on a flat area surrounded by canyons and the pacific ocean. Trees are sparse.

The tight “feel” of the course comes from the design/layout and bunkers protecting every green (raised greens by the way) and landing zone on the course. I’m not sure there is even a pine tree at Torrey Pines! The most defining hazard if one misses the fairway will be the deep roughs.

2021 US Open Winner Picks

Dustin Johnson +1200

Dustin Johnson seemed to fade some last week at Congaree but he still pulled off a top-ten finish on a tough course. He’s still the No. 1 ranked golfer in the world according to the OWGR and he tops the Tour in adjusted scoring. If Johnson avoids some of the approaches and putter issues he had on the back nine on Sunday last week then he’ll be hard to beat.

Collin Morikawa +2000

Collin Morikawa finished in the top twenty during his last visit to Torrey pines and he seems to like the smaller raised greens. The young player from California knows the playing conditions and the way the wind comes into this facility. He’s also had a stellar season which includes a win at the Workday Championship and a handful of top-ten finishes. His last outing was a second-place finish at the Memorial.

Patrick Reed +2800

Patrick Reed rolled through the Farmers for a five-stroke win earlier this season and is coming off a fifth-place finish at the Memorial. Reed has shown he can have a hot putter and his approach game has been strong all year. Several weeks ago he made a push at the Masters finishing T8.

Others I Like: Harris English (+6600) was one of my value picks last week and he almost came through except for a hard fade one the final few holes. Regardless, English has won this season and he’s been towards the front seemingly every event he plays. This one is from the heart as I want to see Phil Mickelson (+5000) finally win the U.S. Open after coming in second six times. You can expect countless news stories on this topic this week.
