PGA: Three Longshots to Finish Top 5 at the 2021 U.S. Open

The toughest test of professional golf’s four Majors gets underway this week at Torrey Pines outside of San Diego. Since the USGA is responsible for setting up the course this week for the 2021 US Open, players can expect to find brutal playing conditions in the form of thicker than usual rough and lightning fast putting surfaces.

The annual US Open attracts the strongest field of the year for a professional four-round tournament as the toughest test of the year. Betting on an outright winner is extremely hard to do given the quality of the field.

Where to Bet on the PGA US Open

However, one bet with a lucrative return that is a bit more plausible to cash is a Top 5 finish. For example, Spain’s Jon Rahm is the tournament favorite at +1050 odds. That number moves to +250 for a Top 5 finish. That is a much safer bet at a decent return.

The Top 5 bet also offers quite a bit of value deeper in the field. Here are three veteran players that offer the best value in their longer Top 5 betting odds.

Justin Rose to Finish Top 5 at the US Open

Odds to Finish Top 5: +1100

Rose is the type of player that still shows up on a regular basis for the sport’s biggest events. The Englishman won his first Major in 2013 by besting the field at Merion Golf Club in the US Open. He made his professional debut in a Major back in 2001, so he has the necessary level of experience to compete at Torrey Pines this week.

More recently, Rose was tied for second in the 2018 US Open and he placed third the following year in this same tournament. Going over his career performance in this Major, he has played in 15 US Opens with one victory and three additional finishes in the Top 5.

Adam Scott to Finish Top 5 at the US Open

Odds to Finish Top 5: +1100

This Australian pro has won 31 tournaments over the course of his career. This includes a Major title with a victory in the 2013 Masters at Augusta National. This is another player that knows how to stay in the hunt at the game’s biggest events.

Scott has been out of the headlines this season after finishing 54th in the 2021 Masters before missing the cut in last month’s PGA Championship. Yet, there is still some solid betting value in his Top 5 odds for the four-round stint at Torrey Pines. This will be his 20th career appearance in the US Open. He tied for fourth place in 2015 for his best finish. Scott was tied for eighth in 2019.

Betting on a Golfer to Win a Tournament

Lee Westwood to Finish Top 5 at the US Open

Odds to Finish Top 5: +3300

At +3300 odds, this pick is a bit of a reach, but the value is still there. Staying competitive in a US Open over four rounds of play requires experience on the sport’s biggest stage. Westwood has posted 44 career victories over the course career covering four different decades. His best days are behind him. However, Phil Mickelson just won a Major at age 50.

Past US Open highlights include three finishes in the Top 5 and two more in the Top 10. Westwood was tied for 13th in last year’s tournament.

We recommend betting on these PGA golfers to win a major this year.
