Carolina Hurricanes over Nashville Predators
Predators at Hurricanes Betting Report
The Hurricanes have won six games in a row as they are knocking on the door of the Lightning for first place in the Central Division. The Predators have lost four of their last five, with two of those losses coming against Carolina. Look for Carolina to add another win Thursday night.
On March 2, Sebastian Aho netted two goals as the Hurricanes got out to a 3-0 lead in Nashville, eventually going on to win 4-2. Then on Tuesday in Raleigh, Carolina scored twice on the power play before Jordan Staal won the game in overtime, delivering a 3-2 victory.
In Tuesday’s game, the Hurricanes outshot Nashville by 12 and out-drew them in the faceoff by 18.
The Predators are just 28th in the NHL with 2.35 goals on a paltry 7.5 shooting percentage. They also sit in the bottom five in both goals allowed and penalty kills.
Meanwhile, the Hurricanes are third in the NHL with 3.36 goals per game while also averaging a power play just under 30 percent. They’re also inside the top 10 in goals allowed, shots allowed, and penalty kills.
All of this, along with the Hurricanes being 9-1-1 at home and the Predators being 4-7-1 on the road, should mean Carolina takes this game easily.
New York Islanders over New Jersey Devils
Devils at Islanders Betting Report
The Islanders, like the Hurricanes, also enter Thursday on a six-game winning streak, which includes a win at New Jersey. The Devils, on the other hand, have dropped six of seven and nine of 11, so look for the Islanders to handle business on Thursday.
The past few meetings between these teams explain a lot about their strengths and weaknesses. The Devils rank in the bottom five in multiple offensive categories, including goals, shooting percentage, and power-play percentage.
That offense faces an Islanders defense that is third in goals allowed, fourth in shots allowed, and top 10 in penalty kill percentage. As a result, New Jersey has scored just four goals in three games against New York this season.
The Islanders have also been brilliant at home, carrying an 11-0-2 record at Nassau Coliseum. Surprisingly, the Devils have also been decent on the road at 6-2-2, but New York has the clear advantage there as well.
The Islanders can also beat teams with offense, evident by five- and even seven-goal efforts in recent games, or by beating teams in low-scoring slugfests like their 2-1 victory Tuesday against the Bruins.
In another game that appears to be a clear mismatch, take the Islanders to make it seven wins in a row on Thursday.
Tampa Bay Lightning over Detroit Red Wings
Lightning at Red Wings Betting Report
This is a game that is probably best-served being a part of a parlay. But the defending champion Lightning, the league leaders in points, should be able to beat the Red Wings, a last-place team with more points than just one team in hockey.
The Lightning have played and beaten the Red Wings three times this season, although the most recent game was by far the closest. Detroit scored an early power-play goal and a couple more later on to take a 3-2 lead heading into the final frame.
However, the Lightning managed to tie things up in the third before winning 4-3 in overtime. The Red Wings were able to keep the shot deficit to within six while equaling the Lightning in hits, faceoff wins, and penalty minutes.
The game was certainly Detroit’s best effort in its now four-game losing streak. Each loss was to a different team, and the first three were all by multiple goals.
Tampa Bay, on the other hand, has begun another winning streak after its previous six-game stretch came to an end in a shootout loss to the Blackhawks on Friday.
Simply put, Tampa Bay has the league’s top-scoring offense and top-scoring defense. Detroit has the league’s lowest-scoring offense and third-most goals allowed on defense.
Barring a sensational performance from Jonathan Bernier, take the Lightning to roll to their third straight win and fourth overall against the Red Wings.
