Twenty of the 32 NHL teams will be on display on Saturday as the 2021-22 season continues. Prior to Friday’s games, three teams – Florida, Carolina, and Washington – remain unbeaten.
The Panthers just lost their head coach Joel Quenneville, who resigned amidst the whole abuse situation that happened when he was the coach of the Chicago Blackhawks. How will that affect Florida for the remainder of the season?
Here’s a look at the top five NHL picks for Saturday, October 30th 2021.
Edmonton Oilers vs. Vancouver Canucks
Best Bet: OVER 6.5
The Oilers are 5-1 so far this season losing for the first time this season in their last game. Edmonton dropped a 5-3 decision to Philadelphia on Wednesday.
The Oilers average 4.5 goals per game and beat Vancouver in their season opener though the score was just 3-2. The Canucks have only played two games out of their eight so far where the total has been seven or more. Vancouver only scores 2.63 goals per game, but they give up closer to three (2.88).
Connor McDavid leads the NHL in scoring and Leon Draisaitl is fourth. There’s just too much scoring power there. Take the Over.
New Jersey Devils vs. Pittsburgh Penguins
Devils vs. Penguins Prediction
Best Bet: DEVILS +133
The Penguins have won just two of their recent five games at home. Saturday’s game with New Jersey is No. 6 of a current eight-game home stand. The Pens lost their last two by a combined score of 9-1.
The Devils have lost two of their last three and have lost five straight to Pittsburgh. But, with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Kris Letang all out of the Pens lineup, there is value on the Devils here. Back New Jersey for the upset.
Detroit Red Wings vs. Toronto Maple Leafs
Red Wings vs. Maple Leafs Prediction
Best Bet: Under 6
The Toronto Maple Leafs are off to a rough start in 2021-22. They have yet to score more than three goals in a game and are averaging just 2.0 goals per contest. Toronto will take on Original Six partner Detroit on Saturday.
The Red Wings have been surprisingly good so far with a record of 4-2-1. The Wings have not been very good in the series with the Leafs recently. Detroit is just 3-6-1 against Toronto in the last ten games. Toronto’s last two games have had a total of 5. Detroit’s last game against Washington also saw a total of 5. While the Maple Leafs have trouble scoring, they also play pretty good defense. There is value on the Under at plus-money (+118).
Minnesota Wild vs. Colorado Avalanche
Best Bet: AVALANCHE -0.5 (+125)
The Avalanche have underachieved early this season. They are just 3-4 through seven games. Minnesota is 5-2, but they have lost two of their last three games.
Nathan MacKinnon (1 goal, 7 points) and Mikko Rantanen (3 goals, 5 points) have to start scoring as they are capable at some point. Colorado is only scoring 2.86 goals per game, but they are favored at home on Saturday.
The value is on the Avs on the puck line where you can get Colorado -0.5 at +125.
Philadelphia Flyers vs. Calgary Flames
Best Bet: UNDER 6
Both Philadelphia (4-1-1) and Calgary (5-1-1) have started strong this season. The Flames are favored at home where Calgary has played just one game so far. They lost to Anaheim in overtime.
The total has gone Under in four of the last six Calgary home games and the Under is 13-7 in the last 20 Philly-Calgary games. In the last three games in the series, the final scores were 3-2, 3-1, and 3-2. Calgary won all three.
The value is on the Under here at +101.
