Wouldn’t this be absolutely awesome? Two professional golfers with an ongoing feud decide to settle it all in the ring.
If you’re unaware, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, the world’s eighth- and sixth-ranked golfers respectively, have been going at each other since 2019. If you don’t know why, we’ll tell you and we’ll let you know if they are going to schedule a charity boxing match in 2021. For good measure, we’ll even pick your best bet.
The Feud
DeChambeau liked to take his time. He was known for taking a minute-plus before taking a shot. Whether DeChambeau did it to anger Koepka isn’t known, but the PGA eventually set a time limit for golfers on the tour. Players have 40 seconds from the end of the previous player’s shot to take their own shot.
At the PGA Championship this year, Koepka was the subject of an on-camera interview when DeChambeau walked by in the background. Koepka was in the middle of talking about some difficulties in lining up putts.
“Just gotta start it on the right line,” DeChambeau says as he walks by. It’s not clear whether he was replying to Koepka or talking to the person walking beside him.
Koepka thought DeChambeau was talking directly to him. Koepka goes on to say, “…lost my train of thought after I heard that bull$&!t?
Whatever it is, there is bad blood between these two elite golfers.
Boxing Match
If you haven’t been paying attention, there have actually been five celebrity boxing matches in 2021. In the most recent match, basketball player and YouTuber Austin McBroom destroyed TikTok and YouTube personality Bryce Hall.
There are odds for a Koepka-DeChambeau charity boxing match, which would no doubt be a huge draw not only among golf fans, but all sports fans as well.
Will a Brooks vs. Bryson Charity Boxing Match Take Place?
Yes +3000
No -11000
Unfortunately, the implied probability of this ever happening are 99.1 percent. For all the optimists, in the words of the great Lloyd Christmas … “so you’re saying there’s a chance.” It’s just that the chance of a Brooks-Bryson showdown is a mere 3.23 percent.
With even a slight chance of this event happening, we have to take a look at who would win. Even if it doesn’t happen, speculating on a winner makes for great conversation. Here’s a look at the odds.
Koepka vs. DeChambeau Boxing Odds and Pick
Koepka -180
DeChambeau +140
The 6-foot, 205-pound Koepka is favored over the beefier 6-1, 240-pound DeChambeau. Size might not have anything to do with this fight, but some other factors might.
Koepka grew up in the West Palm Beach, Florida, area. If you know anything about the area, well…it’s kind of posh. Not saying that Koepka’s upbringing was all that easy, but he did go to private school before going to Florida State.
DeChambeau, on the other hand, went to public school in California. He earned a scholarship to SMU where he became just the fifth golfer in history to win an NCAA title and the U.S. Amateur title in the same year.
Now, DeChambeau did comment on a SiriusXM interview that he wouldn’t win in a fight with Koepka, who replied, “You got that right.” Was that all part of DeChambeau’s Jedi mind tricks? DeChambeau has a bulk advantage and maybe a little tougher upbringing. Take the underdog if they ever do fight.
BEST BET: DeChambeau +140
