Colorado Rockies vs Detroit Tigers Picks and Predictions May 7th 2025

Rockies and Tigers Resume Action After Rain Delays Series Opener

After heavy rain forced a second straight day off, the Colorado Rockies and Detroit Tigers will finally get their three-game series underway on Wednesday in Denver. Originally scheduled to begin Tuesday, the opener was postponed due to weather and rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader on Thursday.

Weather Forces Yet Another Doubleheader

For the Rockies, this marks their third weather-related doubleheader of the 2025 season—and the second at home. Detroit has dealt with one such instance previously this year. While both teams would’ve preferred uninterrupted play, they’ll now prepare for a packed schedule over the next two days.

Detroit manager AJ Hinch confirmed that right-hander Jackson Jobe (2-0, 3.38 ERA) will make his start on Wednesday as planned. Colorado, however, has yet to finalize its pitching rotation following the postponement.

Dollander Looks to Keep Building in Rookie Season

Colorado rookie Chase Dollander (2-3, 6.48 ERA) was originally slated to start Tuesday, and the Rockies may still opt to send him to the mound for Game 1 of the doubleheader. Dollander has had a rocky start to his major league career but has also shown glimpses of his potential.

The young righty earned his first win against the Braves in his most recent start, allowing just one run over 5 2/3 innings. Though Colorado holds the worst record in MLB at 6-28, Dollander believes the team isn’t far from putting things together.

“Obviously, losing is not fun. But at the same time, we know that we’re capable of winning, and we haven’t put a winning product on the field.”
Chase Dollander, Rockies Pitcher

Dollander was one of five Rockies rookies to debut this season and is part of a growing youth movement amid a rebuilding year for Colorado.

Tigers Heating Up on the Road

Detroit, by contrast, enters Denver riding a hot streak. The Tigers have gone 4-3 on their current 10-game road trip, including taking three of four from the Angels in Los Angeles. Their offense has been explosive, scoring 34 runs over the weekend and hitting 20 home runs during the trip—nearly doubling their season total to 47 in just 35 games.

“We have a pretty good offense and it comes from different places… it was a little bit of everybody.”
AJ Hinch, Tigers Manager

Trey Sweeney and Kerry Carpenter combined for 11 RBIs in a 13-1 blowout win on Sunday. Riley Greene also made headlines by hitting two home runs in a single inning on Friday, while other contributors like Javier Baez, Gleyber Torres, Dillon Dingler, and Spencer Torkelson have all chipped in with key long balls.

After a rough 0-3 start to the season in a sweep by the Dodgers, Detroit has gone 22-10 since, earning the best record in the American League. They’ll look to carry that momentum into the high altitude of Coors Field.
