Bassitt is the key to any Orioles ticket. His season ERA is still high at 5.46, but his last start against Houston was much sharper, with one earned run allowed across 6 2/3 innings. That matters. He has the veteran pitch mix to survive against Miami, but he cannot get cute or fall behind. The Orioles’ bullpen is banged up, and if Bassitt only gives them four or five innings, Miami’s speed and contact profile can wear Baltimore down late.

Miami is also coming off a disappointing series, but the Marlins’ issues feel a little different. They lost 1-0 to Philadelphia on Monday and scored only two runs across their last two games. That is not ideal, obviously, but this lineup still has traits I like in a matchup against a struggling pitching staff.
The Miami Marlins schedule and stats show a team that can get on base, hit for average, and run. Miami ranks near the top of the league in stolen bases, which gives it a way to manufacture offense even when the power is quiet. Kyle Stowers had two hits Monday, and the Marlins have enough contact bats to make Bassitt work from the stretch.
Alcantara gives Miami the cleaner foundation. His 3.04 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, and recent home-run prevention make him the more trustworthy starter in this matchup. He has allowed only two runs across each of his last two strong outings, and if he keeps Baltimore’s power in the park, the Marlins should have a good chance to control the game script.

This game starts with the pitching edge, and that leans Miami. Alcantara is more stable than Bassitt right now, and the Orioles’ offense is not doing enough with its opportunities. Baltimore can hit the ball out of the yard, but loanDepot Park is not the easiest place to rely on cheap power.
The Marlins’ path is contact, speed, and pressure. They do not need to slug their way to a win. If Miami gets runners on against Bassitt, stolen-base pressure and gap contact can turn into two-run innings quickly. That kind of profile is useful against a Baltimore team that has been struggling to stop big innings.
Baltimore’s path is more swing-dependent. Alonso, Rutschman, and the middle of the order have to punish Alcantara mistakes. The Orioles have gone over in a lot of recent games, but a good portion of that has come from their pitching getting hit hard, not because the offense is rolling. I lean Marlins on the moneyline. Alcantara is the more reliable starter, Miami is at home, and Baltimore looks fragile after that Yankee Stadium sweep. At -122, the price is still reasonable enough to back the better pitching setup without overpaying.
The Orioles are live because Bassitt did show improvement last time out. If he gives Baltimore six competitive innings, the O’s power can absolutely steal this game. But that is asking for a lot from a team that has not played clean baseball lately. The mistakes, bullpen injuries, and poor run conversion are hard to ignore.
For the total, I lean over 8.5, but it is not my favorite play. Baltimore’s recent over trend is loud, and the Orioles’ pitching staff has been giving opponents chances. Miami also has enough contact and speed to manufacture runs. The concern is Alcantara. If he controls Baltimore for six or seven innings, the over needs Miami to do a lot of the work.
The cleaner angle on the MLB picks board is the home side. Miami does not need to dominate offensively. It just needs Alcantara to hold Baltimore’s power in check and enough small-ball pressure to get to Bassitt or the bullpen.
