Doak Walker Award Odds for 2026 feature one of the deepest groups of returning running backs in college football. Ole Miss star Kewan Lacy enters as the betting favorite after finishing as a finalist last season, but Jadan Baugh, Mark Fletcher Jr., Ahmad Hardy and several longer-priced contenders have legitimate paths to becoming the nation’s top running back.
Lacy is approximately +425 on a current reference board, followed by Florida’s Baugh at +550 and Miami’s Fletcher at +900. Hardy sits around +1300, while Hollywood Smothers, Isaac Brown, Raleek Brown and LJ Martin provide the strongest midrange alternatives.
Our 2026 Doak Walker Award prediction is Lacy. He combines proven production, touchdown volume, national recognition and a No. 9 Ole Miss team capable of returning to the College Football Playoff.
The favorite is not automatically the only worthwhile wager. Fletcher is our preferred value at +900 or better because Miami enters the season ranked No. 7 and he already demonstrated elite production during last year’s playoff run. Hardy is another strong value option around +1300 if his health holds.
LJ Martin is our favorite sleeper at +2200 or better. Bo Jackson becomes the most interesting high-upside longshot if bettors can find +3000 or longer, while the crowded Texas backfield makes both Smothers and Raleek Brown more difficult to support despite their talent.
Doak Walker Award Odds Update

The 2026 Doak Walker market begins with Lacy, one of only two returning finalists from last season.
Lacy is around +425 after rushing for 1,567 yards and setting an Ole Miss single-season record with 24 rushing touchdowns in 2025. That combination of production and returning finalist status explains why sportsbooks have placed him clearly ahead of the field.
Baugh sits second near +550 despite finishing with a more modest 1,170 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns last year. His price reflects expectations for a larger role rather than an existing statistical advantage over Lacy.
Fletcher is third around +900. His regular-season numbers were strong, but his postseason performance is what elevates the Miami senior. Fletcher rushed for a College Football Playoff-record 507 yards during Miami’s 2025 postseason run.
Hardy offers another proven résumé around +1300. He rushed for 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns at Missouri last season and joined Lacy and eventual winner Jeremiyah Love as one of the three Doak Walker finalists.
The middle of the board contains more uncertainty. Smothers and Raleek Brown transferred into the same Texas backfield, creating a potential workload problem for both. Isaac Brown is priced like a top contender despite being omitted from the initial preseason watch list, while Martin enters with one of the strongest returning statistical profiles in the Big 12.
| Doak Walker Category | SAS Pick | Target Price |
|---|---|---|
| 2026 Award Prediction | Kewan Lacy | +400 or Better |
| Best Overall Value | Mark Fletcher Jr. | +900 or Better |
| Best Returning-Finalist Value | Ahmad Hardy | +1300 or Better |
| Best Sleeper | LJ Martin | +2200 or Better |
| Best Longshot | Bo Jackson | +3000 or Better |
College football award prices can vary dramatically between sportsbooks. That is especially true on players outside the first few favorites, so bettors should compare operators through the ScoresAndStats sportsbook reviews before locking in a futures ticket.
Current Doak Walker Award Odds 2026
The current board separates naturally into three groups.
Lacy, Baugh and Fletcher form the top tier. Hardy, Smothers, Isaac Brown and Raleek Brown make up the strongest second tier, while Martin, Caleb Hawkins and Jackson offer larger payouts.
The numbers below use a current reference market. Exact prices can vary substantially by sportsbook, particularly on Baugh, Smothers, Brown and Jackson.

2026 Doak Walker Award Watch List
The official preseason watch list includes 62 running backs from across the FBS.
Five returning 2025 semifinalists appear on the list: Lacy, Hardy, Cameron Dickey of Texas Tech, Cam Cook of West Virginia and Lucky Sutton of San Diego State.
Lacy and Hardy carry additional distinction because they were finalists last season alongside eventual winner Jeremiyah Love.
The watch list is not final. Schools may continue submitting candidates during the season through October, so being omitted in August does not prevent a running back from eventually winning the award.
That is particularly relevant for Louisville’s Isaac Brown. Brown is one of the shorter betting choices despite being absent from the initial list.
The PwC SMU Athletic Forum Board of Directors will select 10 semifinalists in November. Three finalists will then be chosen by the national selection committee, with the winner announced during the Home Depot College Football Awards on December 10.
| Doak Walker Award Stage | 2026 Timeline |
|---|---|
| Preseason Watch List | Released August 18 |
| Additional Nominations | Accepted Through October |
| Semifinalists | 10 Selected in November |
| Finalists | 3 Selected in November |

Kewan Lacy Doak Walker Award Prediction
Lacy deserves to be the favorite and remains our prediction to win the award.

His 2025 résumé already resembles the statistical profile normally associated with a Doak Walker winner. Lacy rushed for 1,567 yards and 24 touchdowns while earning first-team All-America honors.
He also has something most preseason favorites lack: proven award-voter recognition. Lacy reached the final three last season before losing to Love.
That gives him an obvious narrative heading into 2026. If Lacy reproduces anything close to last year’s production on a nationally relevant Ole Miss team, voters do not need to discover him during the season.
Ole Miss enters ranked No. 9 and is coming off a College Football Playoff semifinal appearance. The Rebels also return quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, preventing defenses from building the entire game plan around Lacy.
The schedule creates plenty of showcase opportunities. Ole Miss opens against ranked Louisville before facing LSU, Florida, Missouri, Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma during the regular season.
That difficulty introduces risk but also creates award moments. A 150-yard performance against Texas or Georgia carries much more national value than the same production against an overmatched opponent.
The concern is workload management. Ole Miss has more running back depth than it did last season, and protecting Lacy for another playoff run may prevent him from matching 306 carries.
He does not necessarily need the exact same volume if the touchdown production remains elite.
2026 Doak Walker Award Prediction: Kewan Lacy at +400 or better.
Jadan Baugh Doak Walker Award Prediction
Baugh has the talent to win this award, but +550 is too short for our preferred preseason position.

The Florida junior rushed 220 times for 1,170 yards and eight touchdowns last season. He added 185 receiving yards and two receiving touchdowns.
Those numbers established Baugh as one of the SEC’s better returning backs, but they remain well below Lacy and Hardy in both rushing production and touchdowns.
The bullish argument is workload growth.
Baugh finished 2025 with 266 rushing yards against Florida State, one of the best single-game performances in program history. A full season closer to that late-year ceiling would easily move him into finalist territory.
The schedule makes the bet more difficult. Florida must navigate Ole Miss, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, Oklahoma and Florida State, among others.
That creates both visibility and the risk of inefficient rushing games against elite defensive fronts.
At +550, the market is already pricing a large third-year jump. We would prefer approximately +800 or longer before making Baugh a primary futures position.
Jadan Baugh Betting View: Strong contender, but pass around +550. Target +800 or better.
Mark Fletcher Jr. Doak Walker Award Value Pick
Fletcher is our preferred overall value at +900 or better.
He rushed for 1,192 yards and 12 touchdowns last season while averaging 5.5 yards per carry.

His postseason performance was even more important. Fletcher produced 507 rushing yards during Miami’s College Football Playoff run, setting the CFP record for rushing yards in a single postseason.
That gives Fletcher two qualities award voters value: proven production and performance on the biggest stage.
Miami begins the season ranked No. 7, providing a realistic path to another nationally significant campaign. If the Hurricanes remain in the playoff race, Fletcher will receive considerably more attention than a running back producing similar numbers for an unranked team.
His senior status also helps the workload projection. Miami does not need to preserve him for several future college seasons.
Fletcher does not have to match Lacy’s 24 rushing touchdowns. Something near 1,500 rushing yards with 15-plus total scores on a playoff team would make +900 look very attractive.
Best Doak Walker Award Value: Mark Fletcher Jr. at +900 or better.
Ahmad Hardy Doak Walker Award Value Pick
Hardy may have the strongest pure statistical case among the plus-money alternatives.

He rushed for a Missouri-record 1,649 yards and 16 touchdowns last season and finished as one of the three Doak Walker finalists.
Hardy also produced seven 100-yard games and became one of the rare SEC running backs to surpass 300 yards in a single game.
A +1300 price is therefore surprising when compared with Baugh at +550.
The explanation is mostly context. Hardy is returning from an offseason injury, and Missouri faces a difficult SEC schedule that includes Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Texas, Georgia and Oklahoma.
Missouri also enters only No. 25 in the preseason AP poll. Hardy may need the Tigers to outperform that expectation to receive the same national attention as Lacy or Fletcher.
The talent and résumé still justify the price. A healthy Hardy is not six or seven times less likely to win than Baugh simply because Missouri enters with lower team expectations.
Best Returning-Finalist Value: Ahmad Hardy at +1300 or better.
Isaac Brown Doak Walker Award Prediction
Isaac Brown is the strangest player on the current betting board.

He is priced around +1700 on one current market and considerably shorter elsewhere, yet Brown was omitted from the initial Doak Walker preseason watch list.
That omission does not make him ineligible. Louisville can still have Brown added during the season because nominations remain open through October.
His 2025 season explains why sportsbooks remain interested.
Brown rushed for 884 yards in only nine games while averaging an extraordinary 8.75 yards per carry. A hamstring injury prevented him from compiling the workload necessary for national-award consideration.
Louisville enters 2026 ranked No. 24, giving Brown enough team visibility to enter the race quickly if he starts healthy.
The larger concern is again volume. Louisville has multiple capable backs, and Brown must prove he can turn his explosive efficiency into 200-plus carries.
Isaac Brown Betting View: High-upside candidate at +1700, but workload uncertainty keeps him off the primary card.
Hollywood Smothers Doak Walker Award Prediction
Smothers is one of the most talented backs in the market, but his new team creates an obvious futures problem.
He rushed for 939 yards and six touchdowns at NC State last season while averaging 5.9 yards per carry. He also caught 37 passes for 189 yards and another score.
That receiving production gives Smothers a valuable all-purpose component.
He transferred to Texas, where he now shares a backfield with Raleek Brown. Brown rushed for 1,141 yards at Arizona State last season and averaged 6.1 yards per carry.
Either player could produce at an award-winning efficiency level. The concern is whether either receives enough touches to accumulate award-winning counting stats.
Texas enters ranked No. 5 and should provide plenty of scoring opportunities, but a two-back rotation can destroy a Doak Walker ticket even when both players perform extremely well.
That makes Smothers more interesting for weekly rushing and touchdown props than as a preseason award future.
Hollywood Smothers Betting View: Pass around +1400 unless his role clearly separates from Raleek Brown.
LJ Martin Doak Walker Award Sleeper Pick
Martin is our favorite sleeper at +2200 or better.

The BYU senior rushed for 1,305 yards in 2025, ranking 11th nationally. He averaged more than 100 rushing yards per game and finished the season as the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year.
Martin also brings the workload profile we want in a longshot.
He carried the ball 236 times last season and added enough receiving production to average approximately 120 all-purpose yards per game.
BYU enters ranked No. 14, which gives Martin a much stronger national platform than a typical 22-1 running back.
The Cougars do not need to reach the national championship game for Martin to win. They need to remain relevant in the Big 12 race while he approaches 1,500 rushing yards.
The award has repeatedly gone to backs outside the small group of preseason national-title favorites. Statistical dominance matters more than playing for one of the two or three best teams.
Best Doak Walker Sleeper: LJ Martin at +2200 or better.
Bo Jackson Doak Walker Award Longshot
Jackson offers the most interesting combination of team strength and longshot payout.

The Ohio State sophomore became only the fifth true freshman in program history to rush for more than 1,000 yards last season.
That immediately places him in impressive company and gives him a clear second-year breakout path.
Ohio State also enters the season ranked No. 1 in the AP poll. If Jackson becomes the primary back for the nation’s top team, every major performance will receive national coverage.
The reason the market can offer an enormous number is uncertainty surrounding volume.
Ohio State has enough offensive talent that it does not need to give Jackson 25 carries every week. Quarterback Julian Sayin and receiver Jeremiah Smith will command major portions of the offense and award attention.
Jackson therefore needs efficiency plus touchdowns. A 1,400-yard, 15-touchdown season for an undefeated or one-loss Ohio State team would place him directly in the conversation.
His price also varies enormously by market. We only want the longshot when +3000 or better is actually available.
Best High-Upside Doak Walker Longshot: Bo Jackson at +3000 or better.
2026 Doak Walker Award Contender Tiers
The strongest candidates can be divided by proven production, expected workload and team visibility.
Lacy belongs alone at the top because he combines all three. Fletcher and Hardy have the best mix behind him.
Baugh is talented enough to join that group but must make another statistical jump. Martin has the cleanest sleeper profile, while Jackson offers the highest ceiling among the longer shots.
The Texas backs are downgraded because award winners almost always need clear RB1 volume.
| Doak Walker Tier | Players | SAS View |
|---|---|---|
| Clear Favorite | Kewan Lacy | Final Prediction |
| Primary Challengers | Jadan Baugh, Mark Fletcher Jr., Ahmad Hardy | Fletcher and Hardy Preferred at Price |
| High-Upside Value | Isaac Brown, Hollywood Smothers, Raleek Brown | Monitor Workload |
| Sleeper Tier | LJ Martin, Caleb Hawkins | Martin Preferred |
| Longshot Tier | Bo Jackson and Field | Jackson at +3000 or Longer |
What Does It Take to Win the Doak Walker Award?

Recent winners show that raw rushing production remains the most important factor.
Jeremiyah Love won in 2025 after rushing for 1,372 yards and 18 touchdowns while adding another 280 receiving yards and three scores.
Ashton Jeanty produced one of the greatest seasons in modern college football history in 2024, rushing for 2,601 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Ollie Gordon won in 2023 with 1,732 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Bijan Robinson had 1,580 yards in 2022 and Kenneth Walker III reached 1,636 in 2021.
The exact threshold changes by season, but a serious candidate usually needs at least three things: 1,300-plus rushing yards, double-digit touchdowns and a clear role as the centerpiece of his team’s rushing offense.
Team success helps because it creates nationally televised games, conference championship opportunities and possibly additional playoff exposure.
That is why Lacy, Fletcher, Martin and Jackson gain additional value from playing for preseason-ranked teams.

Recent Doak Walker Award Winners
The recent winner list illustrates how many different types of programs can produce the nation’s top running back.
Love won at Notre Dame in 2025, Jeanty won from Boise State in 2024 and Gordon won at Oklahoma State in 2023.
Texas, Michigan State, Alabama and Wisconsin also produced recent winners.
The award therefore does not require a running back to play for the national championship favorite. Individual production remains powerful enough to overcome team differences.

Final Doak Walker Award Odds and Predictions
Lacy remains our prediction to win the 2026 Doak Walker Award.
No other contender combines his 2025 production, returning-finalist status, touchdown ceiling and playoff-team environment quite as cleanly.
The +425 price is short relative to a field this deep, but it still leaves enough potential return to support the favorite when +400 or better is available.
Fletcher is the preferred value. Miami begins seventh nationally, and his 507-yard CFP performance gives him a national résumé most backs in the +900 range cannot match.
Hardy is arguably the strongest statistical value at +1300. He actually outrushed Lacy last season and was also a finalist, but his offseason health and Missouri’s more difficult path to national relevance create additional uncertainty.
Martin provides the best sleeper combination of workload, returning production and team ranking at +2200.
Jackson becomes the longshot to watch. A 1,000-yard freshman season followed by an RB1 breakout for preseason No. 1 Ohio State creates obvious award upside, particularly if +3000 or longer remains available.
Baugh can absolutely win, but +550 prices too much improvement into the projection before we have seen Florida’s offense. Smothers and Raleek Brown are downgraded because sharing the Texas backfield could prevent either from building the counting stats normally required to win.
Our projected finalists are Lacy, Fletcher and Hardy, with Lacy becoming the first Ole Miss player to win the Doak Walker Award.
