Last weekend’s highly anticipated 2020 Breeders’ Cup at Keeneland did not disappoint with a number of thrilling and sometimes unexpected outcomes in all of the 14 major graded events.
Horse bettors will have to take a step back this weekend but there are still a pair of races at Del Mar on Saturday and Sunday featuring the next generation of elite Thoroughbred racers.

Desi Arnaz Stakes Preview and Predictions
When: Saturday, November 14th 2020
This is an ungraded stakes race open to two-year old fillies. It will be contested on the dirt track at Del Mar covering a seven-furlong sprint.
The field for Saturday’s featured event has been finalized with eight contenders listed as entered. Six of the eight entries carry a Horse Racing Nation rating to create a rather deep field. At the top of the list is trainer Bob Baffert’s Private Mission with a HRN rating of 6.62.
This Kentucky-bred filly will break from the No. 2 post with Drayden Van Dyke as her jockey. She is coming off a victory at Santa Anita in a Maiden Special Weight race at 6½ furlongs on Oct. 18.
Another solid contender to watch in this race is Varda. She is also trained by Baffert with jockey Abel Cedillo breaking her out of the No. 4 post. Recently, she finished second to Princess Noor in the Grade 2 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita on Sept. 26. That race covered an extended 1 1/16 miles on dirt.
Miss Costa Rica should also be right in the mix coming off the Show finish in the Chandelier.

Bob Hope Stakes- Del Mar Racetrack
When: Sunday, November 15th 2020
Before we get into this year’s preview, here’s a replay from last year’s Bob Hope Stakes.
The final field for Sunday’s top race on Del Mar’s card is still taking shape. Open to two-year old Thoroughbreds, there are as many as 11 contenders listed as probable. This Grade 3 event will be run on the dirt covering a total distance of seven furlongs as well.
The top choice for this race would be Baffert’s Spielberg as the son of Union Rags. He currently has a 5.74 HRN rating coming off a recent victory at Del Mar in a MSW race on Nov. 1. The Kentucky-bred colt looked strong in the one-mile run with a winning time of 1:38.07.
More impressive is the second-place finish in this year’s Grade 2 Del Mar Futurity followed by a third-place run in the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita.
Trainer Ryan Hanson’s Weston has the highest HRN rating in the projected field at 5.94. The son of Hit a Bomb took third in the Del Mar Futurity after winning the Grade 2 Best Pal Stakes at Del Mar on Aug. 8. He has placed in the money in all three of his events as a juvenile.
If you are looking for a third choice in a trifecta wager, Red Flag would fit the bill if trainer John Shirreffs runs him on Sunday. He covered 5½ furlongs on the turf at Santa Anita in 1:04.38 to win a MSW race on Oct. 10.
Two other probable entries of note on the early list for the Bob Hope are Dixie’s Two Stents and Caisson.
