What came after

A year later the same two countries met for Olympic gold. At the 2026 Winter Olympics, the United States beat Canada 2-1 in overtime in the men’s final at the Milano Santagiulia Ice Hockey Arena on February 22, 2026.

The NHL and the NHL Players’ Association have announced the World Cup of Hockey for February 2028: eight national teams, 17 games over 12 days, in two host cities. It will be the fourth World Cup, after 1996, 2004 and 2016, and the plan the league set out in June 2025 is to alternate Olympic tournaments and World Cups every two years. No price on it is posted, and we will not quote one until a market for the 2028 event can be sourced and dated.
