There was little question that we would see something a bit different out of the Philadelphia 76ers this season. After all, Doc Rivers came over following his firing by the L.A.Clippers, and the stamp of executive Daryl Morey is being felt.

Whether many people thought the Sixers would be the #1 overall team in the Eastern Conference was another question altogether. But they got there.

The Washington Wizards put superstar scorers Bradley Beal and Russell Westbrook together this season. Beal came within an eyelash of winning the scoring title. Westbrook averaged a triple-double, adding to his array of career stats.

Yet the Wizards still had to fight like hell to make it to the playoffs as the final seed in the East at the conclusion of the play-in “tournament.”

The first game of their playoff series went Philadelphia’s way. How will things play out in Game 2? We think we may have the makings of a proposition wager.

The over-under for the Sixers is 119.5 points. For the Wizards, it’s 111.5 points. The price is -120 either way for both.

It was amazing to some that the Wizards closed out the season winning 17 of its last 23 games, considering their horrific start. And they captured the eighth seed in the East through the play-in process.

But they did not have a lot of luck against the Sixers during the regular season, as Joel Embiid proved to be something of an irresistible force. Embiid averaged 30 points per game in an average of just 30 minutes of action, shooting a little better than 60% from the field. Naturally, those are some pretty strong numbers.

It seemed like the same old story in Game 1 of this series. Embiid scored 30 points in 29 minutes. Although they did not cover the pointspread, the Sixers registered a 125-118 victory, and that team total was not far off the 127 ppg they had scored against the Wizards in the three regular season meetings.

In other words, there is still not a lot they can do about Embiid.

It is understood that the Sixers have more defensive stoppers than the Wizards do. And they have them coming in fresh off the bench, when you consider people like Matisse Thybulle, but they didn’t necessarily bring Washington’s offense to a halt. The Wizards got 33 points out of Bradley Beal, 16 points and 14 assists from Russell Westbrook, and got 55.7% shooting out of their starting lineup.

Beal was able to explode for 60 points against Philadelphia back on January 6, so it’s not surprising if he has a big night. And it must also be kept in mind that not only have the Wizards been #1 in the NBA in the “Pace” category this season, they have to continue to step up the tempo to have any kind of chance, because they sure aren’t going to compete with Philly’s size in the halfcourt setting.

All of this creates the framework for another game that could be high-scoring. And we add a little emphasis to that statement as it concerns the Philadelphia side. So we know which way we’re going there, and it wouldn’t surprise us if Washington surpassed its team total as well.
