Mariners’ Logan Evans Ready for MLB Debut Against Marlins
Excitement is building in Seattle as the Mariners prepare to send top pitching prospect Logan Evans to the mound for his major league debut Sunday against the Miami Marlins.
Evans Steps In After Gilbert’s Injury
Logan Evans’ first big league start comes under unexpected circumstances. Fellow “Big Lo,” Logan Gilbert, landed on the 15-day injured list with a Grade 1 strain in his right elbow after pitching three perfect innings against Miami on Friday night.

“I would have been really surprised if it was something really bad, but you never really know… We probably don’t want to rush anything. We’ll see. But optimistic,” Gilbert said after receiving his diagnosis.
Evans, who was 1-1 with a 3.86 ERA at Triple-A Tacoma, got the late-night call and quickly shared the news with family and friends back home in Michigan. About 10 of them are expected to be in attendance at T-Mobile Park for his debut.
Keeping It Simple on the Big Stage
At just 23 years old, Evans plans to stick to the basics when he toes the rubber.
“Just keep being me. Just be a strike thrower, use all my pitches, strike out guys when I get them into those two-strike counts… really just making quality pitches when I need to,” Evans said.
Logan Gilbert, known for offering guidance to younger teammates, will be close by in the dugout to lend support during Evans’ first outing.
Mariners Riding Momentum Into Series Finale
Seattle has been red-hot, winning 12 of their last 17 games and climbing into a tie with Texas atop the AL West. Their latest victory, a 14-0 dismantling of the Marlins on Saturday, showcased an explosive offense and a dominant performance by Luis Castillo.
Jorge Polanco led the charge with two homers, while Julio Rodriguez and Mitch Garver also went deep. Castillo contributed six scoreless innings, allowing just one hit.

“They were aggressive and put some good swings to barrel it up … they were on it,” Marlins manager Clayton McCullough said about Seattle’s offensive outburst.
Marlins Counter With Max Meyer
Trying to salvage the series, Miami will turn to right-hander Max Meyer (2-2, 2.10 ERA). Meyer is coming off a career-best outing against Cincinnati, where he struck out 14 over six scoreless innings.
“Maybe you have five starts a year that everything feels like it’s clicking and every pitch is doing exactly what you want it to do,” Meyer said. “… I hope to watch the video and do that every single game.”
The Mariners will look to stay hot and secure their sixth straight series win, while Logan Evans aims to make his MLB debut a memorable one.
