When it comes to Formula 1 futures betting, the World Drivers Championship invariably attracts most of the attention. However, the World Constructors Championship often presents the best value.
The 2023 F1 season doesn’t kick off until March 5th, but you can already wager on the winning manufacturer. If the latest Constructors Championship odds are anything to go by, a two horse-race between Red Bull and Mercedes is on the cards.
Let’s take a look at the top contenders to win the award. After that, I will share my 2023 Formula 1 World Constructors Championship predictions.
Top Contenders to Win the 2023 F1 Constructors Championship
Red Bull (+100)
To say that Red Bull dominated the 2022 World Constructors Championship would be an understatement. Indeed, the Milton Keynes outfit racked up a whopping 759 points – 205 points more than second-place Ferrari.
Max Verstappen claimed 454 points on his way to securing the World Drivers Championship, clinching 15 race victories in the process. Meanwhile, two race wins and nine podiums saw Sergio Perez register 305 points.
With Verstappen at the wheel, Red Bull is in pole position to retain the crown in 2023. Better yet, Perez is the perfect #2 driver.
Mercedes (+137)
Mercedes claimed eight consecutive Constructors Championships between 2014 and 2021. Lewis Hamilton won six Drivers Championships during that period, with Nico Rosberg triumphing in 2016.
However, the team from Brackley failed to win a ninth successive title last season. Despite the best efforts of Hamilton and his new teammate, George Russell, Mercedes finished third in the standings – 244 points behind Red Bull.
It is difficult to imagine Mercedes enduring another below-par campaign in 2023. Hamilton and Russell will be desperate to turn things around next season.
Ferrari (+400)
Ferrari had an excellent chance to mount a serious challenge for the Constructors Championship last season, but a combination of driver mistakes and mechanical errors cost the Italian team.
In 2022, Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz chalked up four race wins and 16 podiums between them. If they want to challenge for the title in 2023, they will need to turn more podiums into wins.
Alpine (+8000)
Although Alpine finished fourth in last season’s standings, they found themselves a colossal 342 points behind third-place Mercedes. That tells you everything you need to know about the gulf between the top three and the rest.
Pierre Gasly and Esteban Ocon failed to register a solitary podium between them last season, achieving best finishes of fourth and fifth, respectively. Can Alpine discover the winning formula next year?
McLaren (+8000)
Following the departure of Daniel Ricciardo, Lando Norris will have a new teammate at McLaren in 2023. Oscar Piastri has joined the Woking outfit after winning the 2020 Formula 3 Championship and 2021 Formula 2 Championship.
It will be interesting to see whether Piastri can transfer his skills to Formula 1 right off the bat. Norris has shown glimpses of brilliance over the past couple of years, but he will need his new teammate to hit the ground running.
2023 F1 World Constructors Championship Predictions
If Verstappen can pick up where he left off last season, Red Bull will be extremely difficult to stop in 2023. It is also worth remembering that Perez contributed 305 points to the cause in 2022, securing 40% of Red Bull’s points last season.
Of course, it is difficult to predict how things will pan out before the start of the season. Nobody expected Mercedes’ drastic drop-off in 2022, so anything could happen next year. Still, Red Bull looks best placed to clinch the title in 2023.
