Phillies at Braves Best Pick, Prediction and Odds
The Braves finished +116 in runs this season and the Phillies +15. Take the Braves at -103.
The Philadelphia Phillies are -117 and the Atlanta Braves -103 at DraftKings for Game 2. With the margin removed, that is 48.5% for the Braves. Our number for the Braves is 59.6%. The gap is 11.1 points, and the threshold for a bet is 5.
How the number is built
The method is one clause: each team’s run-based win rate for the 2026 regular season, set against each other, then moved by how often home teams won this season.
The run-based win rate comes from runs scored and allowed alone, runs scored to the power 1.83, divided by that same figure plus runs allowed to the power 1.83. The Braves scored 742 and allowed 626 in 162 games, which gives 57.7%. Their actual record was 94-68, a 58.0% rate. The Phillies scored 713 and allowed 698 in 162 games, for 51.0% against an actual 88-74.
Set against each other on a neutral field, those two rates give the Braves 56.8%. Home teams won 1,284 of 2,429 regular-season games in 2026, 52.9%. Adding that edge takes the Braves to 59.6%, and the Phillies to 40.4%.
The market’s figure is the moneyline with the margin removed. The margin is the few points a book builds into both prices so they add up to more than 100%; here it is 4.7 points. Out of -117 and -103, it leaves the Phillies at 51.5% and the Braves at 48.5%.
The Braves at home, the Phillies on the road
The Braves went 52-29 at home, scoring 4.78 runs a game and allowing 3.90. The Phillies went 45-36 on the road, scoring 4.05 and allowing 4.02. Away from home the Braves were 42-39, and at home the Phillies were 43-38.
The method uses the full season for both teams, 162 games each, because a home or road split halves the sample. The splits are here so you can see what that choice leaves out.
The teams met 13 times in the regular season, and the Braves won 9 of them. The Phillies won the other 4. That is 13 games, and they prove nothing about one more.
The series so far
This is a best-of-three Wild Card Series, every game at Truist Park. The Braves won Game 1, 5-3, on 29 September, so the Phillies need to win Game 2 to force a third game on 1 October.
Nothing in our number reads Game 1. One game is one game, and the method is built on 324 of them.
The starters
Cristopher Sanchez, a left-hander, starts for the Phillies: 2.91 ERA and 1.20 WHIP over 207 innings in 33 starts this season. Tyler Mahle, a right-hander, starts for the Braves: 3.99 ERA and 1.23 WHIP over 149 innings in 27 starts this season.
ERA is earned runs allowed per nine innings. WHIP is walks plus hits allowed per inning. Both are ESPN’s 2026 regular-season figures.
Our number does not use the starters. It is built from what each team did across the season, with every pitcher it used. The market’s price does account for who starts, so part of any gap on this page is the starters, and our method cannot say how much.
The price
The Phillies opened at -112 and the Braves at -108. Read at 07:48 UTC on 30 September 2026, DraftKings via ESPN, they were -117 and -103.
At the opening prices, with the margin removed, the Braves were at 49.6% and the gap was 10.0 points. Today it is 11.1.
Pick: Braves moneyline
Atlanta Braves -103. Our number is 59.6%, the market’s is 48.5%, and the 11.1-point gap clears the 5-point threshold.
It rests on 324 regular-season games, 162 for the Braves and 162 for the Phillies.
What changes it
The price. At today’s margin the Braves stay a bet at -133 or any price that pays more. Past -133 the gap drops under 5 points and the call becomes a pass. The Phillies would need +170.
Then the lineups. A season of runs says how these two teams played from March to September, and nothing on this page says who is in either lineup. Check them, and the starters, before you bet.
The total
The total is 7, with the over at -114 and the under at -106. Pass on the total.
We pass on every postseason total: the season’s run rates come from games started by every pitcher in both rotations, and a postseason total is set for the two starters named. Across the season the Braves games averaged 8.44 runs, the Phillies games 8.71.
