Best MLB Home Run Props Picks for Friday, July 30th

Believe it or not, in the midst of trading madness, the New York Yankees did leave some home run hitters for other clubs. And so we are going to examine whether we should expect long balls from the guys who are the best in the business at launching them.

Home Run Props Predictions for July 30

Athletics vs. Angels Free Pick

SHOHEI OHTANI VS. OAKLAND ATHLETICS (starter – Chris Bassitt)

MLB Props Pick: NO -250

Time: 9:35 PM ET

Ohtani has figured out quite a few pitchers, but Chris Bassitt has not been one of them.

The possible American League MVP has gone only 3-of-19 in his career against him. Yes, there has been a homer among those three base hits, but the magnificent hybrid player has also struck out eight times. So while he has often been swinging for the fences, he is swinging and missing an awful lot.

By the way, Bassitt (10-3, 3.46 ERA), who was a member of the AL All-Star squad, has been more than OK against the Angels, going the whole route in a two-hitter last time out, and giving up two runs before being removed with two outs in the eighth inning in the encounter prior to that.

All told, he has gone his last 25-1/3 innings against Los Angeles without allowing a home run.

Royals vs. Blue Jays Free Pick

VLADIMIR GUERRERO JR. VS. KANSAS CITY ROYALS (starter – Daniel Lynch)

MLB Props Pick: NO -400

Time: 7:05 PM ET

KC rookie Daniel Lynch has had good outings and bad ones. Well, actually he’s had one good outing in his four appearances, but it’s been very good indeed, as he blanked Detroit over eight innings last time out.

It’s interesting, though, that even in these games where he was getting hit hard, surrendering 14 earned runs over eight innings, Lynch has only given up one homer.

And if you go through the entirety of his minor league career, you’d see that he shows a tendency to keep the ball in the park, allowing just 0.7 HR’s per nine-innings.

Guerrero did go “yard” against Boston on Thursday, and he’s hit .360 over his last six games. But that was his first round-tripper in the last seven contests. If we’re going to dial up “yes” here, we’d rather do it against a pitcher who wasn’t susceptible to throwing gopher balls.

Rockies vs. Padres Free Pick

FERNANDO TATIS JR. VS. COLORADO ROCKIES (starter – Jon Gray)

MLB Props Pick: NO -330

Time: 10:10 PM ET

A lot of this may depend on how long Gray is able to stay in the game. Tatis has actually not found the “groove” on a regular basis against the Colorado starter; yes, he’s hit a homer, but that was one of only three hits in 16 at bats.

Against the Rockies’ staff as a whole, he has averaged one homer every eleven at bats.

Gray hasn’t had a bad year, even though we freely admit that his road OPS (.805) is a lot higher than it is at home (.592), he gives up 1.1 homers per nine, and that is better away from Coors Field.

Red Sox vs. Rays Free Pick

RAFAEL DEVERS VS. TAMPA BAY RAYS (starter – Josh Fleming)

MLB Props Pick: YES +400

Time: 7:10 PM ET

We have to admit that we have wanted to say “yes” at least once in this article. There isn’t a lot of history between Devers and Tampa Bay starter Josh Fleming, and we honestly can’t say how many innings Fleming is going to get in this game, although Kevin Cash certainly hopes it’s at least five.

But in Fleming’s lone start against the Red Sox last season, Devers blasted a homer. And the Boston third baseman is not fazed much by going out on the road, as he has hit 16 homers in 184 at bats and produced to the level of a .992 OPS.

The only rough part is that Devers has just a .182 average against Rays’ pitching this season. Then again, he hasn’t met Mr. Fleming yet in 2021.
