UNC opened with a 48-14 home loss to TCU and was 2-2 at the end of September. It lost its first three October games, beat Syracuse and Stanford, and lost its last three, finishing with a 42-19 defeat at NC State. Three of the eight losses were by seven points or fewer: 21-18 at California, 17-16 to Virginia and 32-25 to Duke.

The second season so far
Belichick is in his second season as head coach. The Tar Heels beat TCU 15-10 in Dublin, Ireland, on August 29, beat East Tennessee State 35-3 and lost 28-20 at Clemson on September 19.
