The next European Championship is UEFA EURO 2028, from June 9 to July 9, 2028, in England, the Republic of Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The opening match is in Cardiff and the final is at Wembley, and qualifying does not start until March 2027, so no team has a place and this page names no favorite.
Spain are the holders. They beat England 2-1 in the EURO 2024 final in Berlin on July 14, 2024, with Mikel Oyarzabal scoring the winner in the 86th minute.
Nico Williams put Spain ahead in the 47th minute, assisted by Lamine Yamal, and Cole Palmer equalized for England in the 73rd before Oyarzabal, assisted by Marc Cucurella, won it at the Olympiastadion.
EURO 2028 dates and venues
UEFA has confirmed 51 matches in nine stadiums across eight cities. The format is the same one used since 2016: 24 teams in six groups, with the top two in each group and the four best third-placed teams going to the round of 16.
| Stage | Date | Venue |
|---|---|---|
| Opening match (Group A) | Friday, June 9, 2028 | National Stadium of Wales, Cardiff |
| Semifinals | Tuesday, July 4, and Wednesday, July 5 | Wembley Stadium, London |
| Final | Sunday, July 9, 2028 | Wembley Stadium, London |
Every stadium except Wembley stages a round-of-16 match, and the quarterfinals are split between Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow and Wembley. The nine stadiums are the National Stadium of Wales, Dublin Arena, Hampden Park, St James’ Park, Manchester City Stadium, Everton Stadium, Villa Park, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and Wembley. The final kicks off at 18:00 CEST, 17:00 in London.
How qualifying works
The qualifying draw is in Belfast on Sunday, December 6, 2026. Teams are drawn into 12 groups of four or five and play home and away from March to November 2027. Group winners qualify directly, and runners-up either qualify directly or go into play-offs with UEFA Nations League teams in March 2028.
UEFA’s schedule treats the hosts as teams that still have to get there: it reserves group-head places at the finals for the four hosts and Northern Ireland if they are qualified at the time of the final draw in 2027.
Betting EURO 2028
An outright price this far out is a bet on a team that has not yet qualified. When a board appears, turn each price into a chance before betting: +450 implies 18.2% and +800 implies 11.1%. A futures bet is worth making only when you rate the team’s chance higher than the price does.
